Here are the obituaries posted for the current month from information provided courtesy of local and area funeral homes and published on their websites or those submitted by families. Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Charlie Cain

A funeral service for Charlie Cain, 81, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at Lighthouse Baptist Chapel in Frankston. Bro. George Folmar and Bro. Joshua Wilken will officiate. Charlie will be laid to rest at Frankston City Cemetery in Frankston.

Visitation will begin on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home, Frankston.

Charlie was born on Oct. 26, 1941, to George W. and Lillie Bell Cain in Blossom, TX and entered eternal life on Sept. 21, 2023. He worked as a supervisor for the City of Dallas Water Utilities for over 33 years in the Survey and Mapping Division. In 1992 after retiring, he and his family moved to Frankston to enjoy the peacefulness of the countryside. He was a charter member of Lighthouse Baptist Chapel where he served as a deacon. Charlie was also an avid golfer. He is greatly remembered for his sense of humor -- his love of laughter and giving laughter to others.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn Mobley.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Linda Glover Cain of Frankston; son, Steve Cain and wife Darlene of Parker, CO; daughters, Kristi Cain Denton and husband Stile of Frankston, and Teresa Cain of The Colony, TX. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Zachary Denton, Bryan Cain, Megan Denton Jones, and Michael Denton; and one great grandchild, Slayton Jones.

Pallbearers will be Steve Cain, Zachary Denton, Bryan Cain, Michael Denton, Wayne Bristow, Lynn Livingston, Tim Bulin, and Jack Willaford.

Donald James Platt

Donald James Platt, 93, of Frankston went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 4, 2023. He was born June 13, 1930, to David J. and Alta (Bonner) Platt in Galena, Ohio.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 57 years, Eloise (Floyd) Platt; his brother, Bill Platt; and his sister, Alta Mona Porter.

Donald (Don) Platt was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a kind-hearted friend to all. He was an avid woodworker, bowler, antique hunter, family history buff, and garage sale aficionado. He loved a good sale and had an eye for finding the best treasures. Don loved his family and loved traveling all over the country with Eloise in their retirement years and going camping and fishing whenever possible.

Don joined the Navy at the age of 17 and served his country honorably and faithfully through several periods of great international conflict and unrest. At the age of 23, Don met Eloise while he was stationed at Barin Field in Foley, Alabama. They soon eloped and Eloise took on the life of a Navy wife, going and living wherever the military sent them, including the Panama Canal Zone while pregnant with their first child.

Throughout his military career as an Aviation Machinist, Career Counselor, and Collateral Duty Inspector of the T-34B training aircraft, Don was recognized by his superiors as an “exemplary Navy man … and an outstanding leader” and was said to be an “example to the men he led in both character and appearance.” He was proud to be a Navy man and after 20 years of active duty, Don moved his family to Irving, Texas while continuing to serve 10 more years as part of the Fleet Reserve.

In 1974, Don and Eloise, along with five of their six children, moved to Frankston. At the age of 47, Don began a second career as a builder/remodeler in the Frankston and Jacksonville area. He earned his Associate’s Degree from Henderson County Junior College, majoring in Drafting and Design, while also completing a Bricklaying Certificate. He loved East Texas, and the friends he made in Frankston and Jacksonville were some of the best he had.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Ann Allen Wegner and husband, Keith of Irving; son, Jim Platt and wife, Donna of Clute; and daughters Melanie Stacey and husband, Rick, Diana Caldwell, Pamela Spears and husband, Eric, and Valerie McLaughlin and husband, Andy – all of Frankston; 12 grandchildren: Jeffrey Allen, Michael Allen, Shane Platt, Justin Platt, Jeremy Red, Canaan Red, Christopher Stacey, Riley Gentry, Mikey Caldwell, Dillon Spears, Erica McDonald, Chelsea Simon; sister, Jean Rickly and husband, Bill of Columbus, Ohio; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family suggests making a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospitals, Shriner’s Hospitals, or a charity of your choice in Don’s name.

The family is planning a graveside memorial service and will notify friends and loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled.

Sean O Leary

A funeral service for Sean O Leary, 39, is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Frankston with Pastor Scott Wiley officiating. Sean will be laid to rest at Berryville Cemetery.

Sean was born on Jan. 10, 1984, to Griffey and Gayla Sue (Renfro) Leary in Lubbock and passed away on Sept. 8, 2023.

Sean was preceded in death by his pawpaw, Billy Don Renfro.

Left to cherish Sean’s memory are his parents, Bo and Gayla Leary of Berryville; grandma, Laverne Renfro of Slaton; and two sisters, April Leary Smith and Armando Olmos of Arlington, and Mandi Leary and husband Blake Erdely of Berryville. He is also survived by his nephew, Riley Smith; and two nieces, Lexi Leary and Alise Erdely.

Pallbearers will be Riley Smith, Blake Erdely, Armando Olmos, Coy Leake, Cody Leake, and Garnett McClure
