Maidens fall to 22-2A Normangee
1-3 in Class 2A bi-district match
The Frankston Maidens varsity fell to Normangee 1-3 in a Class 2A bi-district volleyball game Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Fairfield, according to a report by Coach Lisa Hokit.
The Lady Panthers were the third place team in District 22-2A with a season record of 22-9 and a district record of 3-2.
The Maidens fell to Normangee in the first set 13-25 and then battled the Lady Panthers to win the second set 27-25. The two teams were tied at 1-1 going into the third set but Normangee won that set 15-25 and took the fourth set and match 10-25.
The Maidens started the year rebuilding but as the season progressed they got stronger and ended district play with a 4-2 record, defeating competitive Kerens and Cross Roads twice and losing to District 21-2A champion Cayuga twice.
A Normangee volleyball team had defeated Frankston 3-0 in a hard-fought bi-district match in 2020 after the 2020 Maidens had captured first place in District 21-2A and posted a season record of 11-3.
The match was the final volleyball match for seniors Amber Foscue, Kaylah Redic, Lynsie Bizzell, Ja’Shalyn Hatton and Natalie Crawley.
Coach Hokit had words of praise for her team.
“The Maidens battled hard but came up short,” she said. “I am so proud of each one of them and what they put into the season. We wouldn’t have gotten as far as we did without the contributions of each player on the team.”
The other three 21-2A teams fell in their bi-district matches. Centerville defeated Cayuga 3-1. Iola won over Kerens 3-0 and Leon defeated Cross Roads 3-0.

Maidens fall to 21-2A leader
Cayuga 0-3, finish in second
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team, after a slow start, gave the District 21-2A leader Cayuga a tough time in the final two sets before falling 0-3 on the road Tuesday, Oct. 25, according to a report from Coach Lisa Hokit.
The Maidens finished the regular season in second place in the district with a 4-2 record to go into the playoffs as second seed and play the third seed in District 22-2A. Details on the bi-district game are not available at this time.
The Maidens varsity was defeated in the first set 8-25 but they came back strong in the second and third sets, losing by only 20-25 in the second and 19-25 in the third and deciding set of the best of five series.
Earlier, the Maidens Junior Varsity Blue team defeated their Cayuga counterparts in a competitive match 2-1. They won a hard-fought, extended first set 31-29, but fell in the second set 16-25. Their victory came with a 15-11 effort in the third and deciding set of the best of three series.
The JV Blue team finished their season as District JV Champions with a perfect district record of 6-0. JV teams do not advance into the playoffs.
The JV White team lost their match 0-2, falling in the first set 9-25 but coming back to contest in the second set 17-25.

Maidens increase district record
with win over Cross Roads here
Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team increased their 21-A record to 4-1 Saturday, Oct. 22 with a 3-0 victory over Cross Roads at Senior Day at the Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston.

Earlier the Junior Varsity Blue team defeated their Cross Roads counterparts 2-0. The JV White team had lost to Cross Road 0-2.
The first two sets in the varsity match were hard-fought. The Maidens came away with a 25-20 win after being as close as 21-20 at one point late in the set. They proceeded to score four more points for the win while Cross Roads was held scoreless.
The second set was even closer with the Maidens finally winning 26-24. The two teams were tied 24-24 at one point near the end but the Maidens scored two more points to secure the narrow win.
The JV Blue team won their first set 25-19 and the second set 25-20 as they fought off repeated attempts by their Cross Roads opponents to come back.

volleyball matches at Kerens
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team increased their 21-2A record to 3-1 after winning a close match over the Kerens Lady Bobcats on the road Tuesday, Oct. 18, according to a report by Coach Lisa Hokit.
Earlier, the Junior Varsity Blue team defeated their Kerens counterparts 2-1.
The Maidens varsity won a hotly contested first set 25-23 and then had an easier time in the second set by winning 25-16. In the third set, Kerens had the edge 19-25 and evened things up in the fourth set with a 20-25 win. That forced a fifth and deciding set to determine the winner. The Maidens came back to win the set and match 15-11.
The JV Blue won their first set 25-11, lost a close one 25-27 in the second set and then won the third set and the match 15-11.
The Maidens will return for a Senior Day match at 10 a.m. against Cross Roads on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston.
Maidens give 21-2A leader Cayuga

The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team lost their first District 21-2A match Saturday, Oct. 15 at the hands of the league-leading Cayuga Lady Wildcats 0-3 but they gave the district leaders a tough battle in the final and deciding set of the best of five match at their home Robert Loper Coliseum.
Earlier, the Maidens Junior Varsity Blue team scored a 2-0 win over their Cayuga counterparts after the JV White team had fallen to a Cayuga team 0-2.
The Maidens varsity fell in the first set to the Lady Wildcats 11-25 and lost the second set 19-25 playing their opponents close and leading at times before losing by the six points at the end.
In the third and deciding set, the Maidens had a chance to win the match near the end and were as close as three points 20-23 before Cayuga pulled away to win 21-25.
The Maidens had been unbeaten at 2-0 in district play before this match, downing Kerens and Cross Roads in three sets in best of five matches.
The JV Blue team dominated their first set starting with a 10-1 lead and ending by allowing only eight more points to win 25-9. They were almost as dominate in the second and deciding set but started pulling away after allowing their opponents to score nine points at 11-9. They would allow only one more point for the remainder of the set, winning 25-10.
The JV White team was not as fortunate, trailing all the way to lose the first set 10-25. They did better in the second and deciding set, scoring 14 points before losing 14-25.
The Maidens teams will journey to Kerens on Tuesday, Oct. 18 for their second meeting. Matches are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Cross Roads in district matches
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team defeated Cross Roads 3-0 on the road Tuesday, Oct. 11 and the Junior Varsity Blue team won 2-0, according to a report by Coach Lisa Hokit.
The JV White team lost a competitive match 1-2, it was reported.
The varsity had a relatively easy time in the first two sets, winning 25-14 in the first set and 25-11 in the second. However, they won the third and deciding set in a close contest 25-23.
The JV Blue won their two sets in close sets, the first 25-23 and the second 26-24.
The JV White team won the first set by a close score, 25-23 but fell in a second extended set 32-34. That forced a third and deciding set and the Frankston girls lost 9-15.
The varsity and JV Blue wins gave them 2-0 records in District 21-2A.

Maidens varsity, JV win first
district matches over Kerens
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team won their District 21-2A opening match against the Kerens Lady Bobcats 3-0 Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston.
Earlier the Maidens Junior Varsity defeated their Kerens counterparts 2-0 in their best of three match.
The Maidens’ win over Kerens did not come easy as the two teams contested for every point in two of the three sets before the Maidens pulled ahead to stay and win the sets. The Frankston girls won the first set 25-19. At one time the Maidens were behind 16-19, but they bounced back, scoring nine points while Kerens could not score another point.
In the second set, the Frankston girls were never behind as they won 25-18.
The third set turned into a battle. The Maidens, who trailed Kerens for most of the set, finally pulled ahead 18-16 and scored seven points to only one for the Lady Bobcats to win the set 25-17 and the best of five match.
The Maidens JV dominated in both their sets with Kerens. They won 25-8 in the first set and 25-9 in the second to take the match.

Maidens defeat Trinidad 3-0
in non-district match Sept. 27
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team defeated Trinidad 3-0 on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 27 in a non-district match, according to a report by Coach Lisa Hokit.
The Maidens will now have two open dates, unless additional matches can be arranged. They are scheduled to open District 21-2A competition on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Robert Loper Coliseum with junior varsity action beginning at 1 p.m.
Against Trinidad, the Maidens and Lady Trojans had a close contest in the first set, before the Maidens won 26-24. However, they had an easier time in the other two sets, winning the second 25-16 and 25-10 in the third and deciding set of the best of five match.

‘Legends’ give Maidens workout
but fall 0-3 in competitive match
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team got a good workout Friday afternoon, Sept. 23 against players from previous Maidens volleyball teams in a match labeled, “Maidens vs. Legends” at Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston.
Both teams seemed to be having fun, but it was designed to give the Maidens some extra practice, given that there are several open dates before they actually begin district competition. The district is smaller than usual this year and many other districts have already started their league competition.
The Maidens won the match 25-21, 25-14, 26-24 but the Legends gave the 2022 Maidens some competition, particularly in the first and third sets.
Playing for the Legends were such competitive former players as Kaitlyn Matthews, Maggie Caveness, Gracie Roark, Emily Bizzell, Abbie Ramsey, Haidyn Hokit and Melanie Pizano. (See Group Courtesy Photo HERE )

Maidens varsity hustles to 3-0
win over Alba-Golden Sept. 20
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team hustled to a 3-0 win over Alba-Golden Tuesday, Sept. 20 and the Junior Varsity Blue team won 2-0 in an earlier match at the Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston.
The Alba-Golden varsity came into the non-district match with a 13-10 varsity record.
The Maidens varsity won a hotly-contested first set 25-22 and then took the second set 25-17. In the third set, the Maidens had to overcome an early deficit and finally evened the score at 17-17. They were to win the next five points before Alba-Golden could score another point to make it 22-18. The Maidens were able to score the three more points needed to win the match while Alba-Golden was scoring four to make it close at 25-22. (See Video Clip HERE )
In the JV Blue match with Alba-Golden, the Frankston girls won the first set 25-9 and held off their opponents in the second and deciding set 25-17 in the best of three set match.
Coach Lisa Hokit had words of praise for the Maidens’ effort.
“I am so proud of the way we played tonight. This is what I see in practice,” the coach said. “Great things happen when everyone comes together to play as a team.”
The Maidens coach said she hopes the Maidens can continue this type of play, but it will be difficult with all the holes coming up in our schedule. She said Friday is when most districts will start district play, but with our small district this year we are starting much later.
Coach Hokit said she has reached out to recent former players in hopes they would help us fill one of our open dates.
“I am beyond grateful that some were able to accommodate me and continue to give back to the program,” she said.
As a result, the “Maidens vs Legends” scrimmage is slated for Friday, Sept. 23 at 4:30 p.m. at the Robert Loper Coliseum, the coach announced.
The Maidens varsity plays its final non-district match on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Trinidad. District competition is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Loper Coliseum with matches against Kerens.

Maidens varsity, JV get sweep
over Fruitvale in Sept. 16 tests
The Frankston Maidens varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams came away with a sweep against Fruitvale Friday, Sept. 16 in non-district action at the Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston.
As is customary on Fridays, the varsity went first. It took four sets, but the Maidens took a 3-1 win over the Fruitvale varsity. They’d won the first set 25-15 and then lost in the second set in a battle 23-25. The Frankston girls came roaring back with a 25-16 third set and then won the fourth set and the match 25-18.
The Junior Varsity Blue team won 2-0 in a best of three match, but the deciding second set went down to the wire. They won the first set 25-19 but Fruitvale gave them a fight for the second set. The Maidens finally won it and the match 27-25.
The JV White team followed suit with a 2-0 win. After taking a commanding 25-13 win in the first set, they had a tussle at the end of the second and deciding set, finally winning 30-28.
The varsity and JV Blue teams will be at home on Tuesday, Sept. 20 against Alba-Golden with action starting at 5 p.m. Then they will enjoy an open date on Friday, Sept. 23.

Maidens fall to Neches teams
in non-district matches here
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team ran into a talented Neches Lady Tigers non-district opponent Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston and fell 0-3 to their neighbors from down FM 19.
The Maidens varsity gave their Neches opponent a battle in the first set before falling 19-25. They lost the last two sets of the best of five match 10-25, 14-25.
Earlier, the Neches Junior Varsity won a best of three match 2-0, although the Maiden JV came close to a win in the second set 23-25. They had lost the first set 14-25.

Neches has a history of winning volleyball teams. In 2020, they won the Class A State Championship for the third straight year. That year, the Maidens lost to Neches twice 0-3 in district competition but finished second at 11-3 among 2A teams in the district and advanced to Bi-district in the 2A playoffs, losing to Normangee 0-3.
Last year, the Lady Tigers team defeated the Maidens twice as a Class A member of the Maidens 2-A district. The Maidens had defeated the Neches girls 2-1 in an early tournament meeting. The Lady Tigers went on to advance to the third round in the Class A playoffs after defeating Goodrich 3-0 and Chester 3-0 before losing to Sulphur Bluff 2-3.
The Maidens finished as third seed among 2A teams in the district and lost to Centerville 0-3 in a 2A Bi-district Playoff match.
The Maidens varsity and JV Blue teams will host Fruitvale Friday, Sept. 16 with action starting at 4:30 p.m. in non-district matches at the Robert Loper Coliseum.

Maidens varsity takes tough
win over Oakwood Sept. 10
The Frankston Maidens varsity prevailed 3-2 in a hard-fought non-district volleyball match with Oakwood Saturday afternoon, Sept. 10 at the Robert Loper Coliseum at Frankston High School.
The match had been re-scheduled from Friday, Sept. 9.
The first three sets went down to the wire with the Maidens winning the first one, 26-24. Oakwood came back in the next two, narrowly edging the Frankston girls 23-25 and 24-26. The Maidens had to win the fourth set to stay in the match and they did that convincingly 25-8, leading early before Oakwood could score any points.
In the fifth and deciding set, the Maidens also started strong and after being tied at 4-4, they allowed Oakwood only five more points, winning the set and match 15-9.

The varsity and junior varsity Blue Team is scheduled to host Neches in matches on Tuesday, Sept. 13 starting at 5 p.m. at the Robert Loper Coliseum. The two teams will host Fruitvale in other non-district matches on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Frankston coliseum.

teams in matches on Sept. 2, 6
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team fell to Scurry-Rosser 0-3 Tuesday, Sept. 6 on the road in a non-district match, according to a report from Coach Lisa Hokit.
Earlier the Junior Varsity Blue team lost 0-2 and the JV White team fell 0-2.
According to an earlier report, the Maidens varsity fell to Huntington 0-3 on Friday, Sept. 2 at Huntington in another non-district match. Both JV teams fell to their counterparts, according to the report. The varsity lost all three sets 12-25, 12-25, 19-25. Earlier the JV Blue team lost 0-2 with set scores of 20-25, 15-25. The JV White team fell 0-2, scoring 18-25, 9-25 in the best of three matches, according to JV Coach Nicholas Tarr.
Against Scurry-Rosser, the varsity fell 17-25 in the first set and 9-25 in the second but came back strong in the third set before losing 23-25. The JV Blue team lost both sets, 8–25, 13-25 and the JV White team lost 11-25, 14-25.
According to Coach Hokit, the varsity match with Oakwood, previously scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9, has been moved to Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston.

Maidens varsity tops Jacksonville
3-0 in non-district match Aug. 30
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team defeated Jacksonville 3-0 Tuesday night, Aug. 30 in non-district action at Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston.
The Maidens took the first set 25-17 and the second set 25-16 and fought off the Jacksonville Maidens 25-22 to win the best of five match.
Earlier in the evening the Maidens Junior Varsity Blue team fell to their Jacksonville counterparts 1-2 in a best of three match. The Maidens JV Blue won the first set handily 25-16 but lost the second set 13-25, falling behind early by 0-10 before starting a climb back by scoring 13 points. In the third and deciding set, Jacksonville won the set and match 8-15.

In the opening match, the Maidens JV White team fell 0-2 to their counterparts losing two straight sets 19-25, 15-25.
On Friday, Sept. 2, the Maidens teams go to Huntington for other non-district tests.

Maidens JV Blue tops Mineola;
varsity played tough Aug. 26
The Frankston Maidens Junior Varsity Blue volleyball team won over Mineola on Friday, Aug. 26 2-0 while the Maidens varsity played tough but fell to the Mineola varsity 0-3 in non-district action, according to Coach Lisa Hokit.
The JV Blue team took two sets 25-14, 25-11 to win the best of three match.
The varsity lost 15-25 in the first set, gave the Mineola team a test in the second set 22-25 and then fell in the third and deciding set 14-25 in the best of five match.
The Maidens teams return to the familiar confines of the Robert Loper Coliseum Tuesday, Aug. 30 in Frankston for junior varsity and varsity non-district competition against Jacksonville. Action begins at 5 p.m.

Maidens volleyball teams give
Eustace tough matches Aug. 23
The Frankston Maidens played Eustace tough on Tuesday, Aug. 23 in their home opening non-district volleyball matches at Robert Loper Coliseum.
The Maidens Junior Varsity Blue team won over their Eustace counterparts 2-0 in sets which went up to the last points. The Maidens Blue team won the first set 26-24 and then battled to a 25-21 win in the second set. (See Video Clip HERE )
Earlier, the Maidens Junior Varsity White team fell 1-2 in their match with Eustace, losing the first set 10-25 and bouncing back for an impressive 26-24 second set victory. However, Eustace won the match by posting a 10-15 performance in the best of three match.
The Maidens Varsity gave the talented Eustace varsity a competive match, forcing four sets before they fell 1-3. In the first set, the Maidens fell 19-25 but came back strong in the second set to win 25-21. In the third set the Lady Bulldogs took a 16-24 decision. However, in the fourth set, the Maidens had a chance to force a fifth set, before Eustace salvaged a 24-26 victory to win the best three of five sets match.

The Maidens teams will be trying to continue to improve when they journey to Mineola on Friday, Aug. 26 before they continue non-district play hosting Jacksonville on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Maidens volleyball teams to host
Eustace in home opener Aug. 23
The Frankston Maidens varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams will host their home opener Tuesday, Aug. 23 against Eustace at the Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston.
The matches start at 5 p.m.
The Maidens varsity competed in the Eustace Tournament Silver Bracket Saturday, Aug. 20 and fell to Grand Saline 0-2 and lost to the Kaufman Junior Varsity 1-2, according to a report from Coach Lisa Hokit.
The Maidens lost both sets 19-25, 18-25 to Grand Saline and lost to the Kaufman JV in the first set 21-25 before winning the second 25-19. In the third and deciding set, they lost a close one 14-16.
In pool play prior to bracket play, the Maidens lost to Eustace 17-25, 23-25, fell to Neches 13-25, 16-25 before winning over North Dallas 25-15, 25-9.

Maidens JV Blue wins, varsity plays
Buffalo tough, falling 2-3 in five sets
The Frankston Maidens Junior Varsity Blue volleyball team won over their Buffalo counterparts 2-1 Tuesday, Aug. 16 while the varsity was battling Buffalo for five sets before falling 2-3 in a non-district matchup, according to Coach Lisa Hokit.
The JV Blue lost the first set 21-25 before winning the last two 25-15 and 25-12. The JV White team lost 0-2 in set scoring of 10-25, 13-25.
The improving Maidens varsity fell in the first set 19-25 and then came back to tie things with a 25-15 showing. The Lady Bisons got the edge in the third set 23-25 and the Maidens came back 25-18 to give them a shot at taking the match. However, Buffalo won the final set 10-15 to win the match.
Coach Hokit said the varsity Maidens fought a tough battle.
“We came up a little short, but we did so many things that were good,” the coach said after the match. “If we build on how we played tonight, we will be a tough competitor to contend with.”
The Maidens varsity will be in pool play at the Eustace Tournament on Friday, Aug. 19 in preparation for bracket competition on Saturday, Aug. 20
On Tuesday, Aug. 23 the junior varsity and varsity will host Eustace at the Robert Loper Coliseum in Frankston.

Maidens varsity wins silver bracket
Consolation in Palestine tournament
The Frankston Maidens varsity volleyball team came away with Consolation honors in the Silver Bracket of the Palestine Tournament Saturday, Aug. 13 defeating Cayuga 2-0 after having won over Oakwood 2-0, according to a report from Coach Lisa Hokit.
The Maidens had reached bracket play after pool play against Buffalo, Malakoff and Palestine Thursday and met Neches in the first bracket game on Saturday. They fell to the Lady Tigers in two of the three sets. They won the first set 25-23 before falling 12-25 and 10-15 in the deciding two sets.
The Maidens Junior Varsity Blue team reached bracket play in the Eustace Tournament on Thursday, Aug. 11 and advanced to bracket play on Saturday. They lost both matches in bracket play. Set scores were not immediately available.
On Friday, Aug. 12, the varsity and JV teams went to Malakoff and the JV Blue team won 2-1, falling 21-25 in the first set, but winning the deciding two sets 25-16 and 15-5. The Maidens varsity fell to Malakoff 0-3 in a best of five match, 17-25, 9-25, 23-25. The JV White Team lost 0-2, with set scores of 1-25 and 3-25.
The three teams will go to Buffalo on Tuesday, Aug. 16 for another non-district matchup.
