Mrs. Anne Yarrell Collins

TYLER — Funeral services for Mrs. Anne Yarrell Collins, 69, of Tyler were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Burks Walker Tippit Chapel with Rev. James Matthews officiating.

Burial was in Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Collins died Wednesday, Sept. 3, in Tyler.

She was born May 8, 1934 in Tyler and lived in Tyler her entire life. Mrs. Collins was an Episcopalian and was a service representative for ETMC Health First.

Survivors include her husband, William G. (Bill) Collins of Tyler; a son, Kyle Collins of Tyler; three daughters, Cherylyn Lade of Frankston, Lisa Estep of Altaloma, Calif. and Elizabeth Grisby of Tyler; a sister, Bette Davis of Bullard, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Danny Cruz, Dan Davis, Randy Grisby, Jason Lade, Jeremy Lade and Jamey Lade.

Honorary pallbearers were Briscoe Davis, James Dickerson, Red Norris and Jim Lade.

Catherine Jackson

Funeral services for Catherine Jackson, 91, of Frankston were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Mount Olive Sand Flat Baptist Church with Pastor Alice Cumby officiating.

Burial was in Mount Olive Sand Flat Cemetery under direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co., Tyler.

Mrs. Jackson died Monday, Sept. 1, in a Jacksonville hospital.

She was born Oct. 14, 1911, in Palestine and was a lifelong resident of Anderson County. She attended Mount Zion community schools, was retired and a member of Faith Temple Pentecostal Church where she served as Sunday School superintendent, president of Mission Society, and chair lady of building fund committee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, grandson and a brother.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Cleo Phifer of Dallas; special friends, Jessie Fields and Ara Henderson, both of Frankston; and cousins.

Pallbearers were Robert Johnson, Charles Johnson, Billy Jack Johnson, Thomas Fields Jr., Curtis Fields and Willie Henderson.

Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Donnell, Lonnie Hurd, Howard Cumby and deacons of Faith Temple Pentecostal Church.

Charles King

Funeral services for Charles Bernard King, 51, of Essex, Iowa, were held Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Essex, with the Rev. Gregory Hanneman officiating.

Burial with military graveside rites was held at the Essex Cemetery.

Mr. King died on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., after a lengthy illness.

Mr. King was born Oct. 21, 1951 at Hayward, Calif.

He entered the U.S. Navy, serving on the aircraft carrier Midway during the Vietnam War. He lived in the Frankston and Tyler areas before moving to Iowa where he farmed with his father-in-law. Mr. King was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and American Legion Weatherall-Hadden-Holmes Post #333 where he was a past commander.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Vinnie Taylor of Poynor; and father, Filbert King.

Survivors include his wife, Jane King; children, John King, Jacob King and Janelle King, all of home, and Joseph King of Idaho; his mother, Maxine King of Shenandoah, Iowa; a sister, Jeanne DeRosa and her husband, Darrell, of Hollister, Calif; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Anderson of Clarinda, Iowa; and other relatives, including Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jones and family of Frankston, and many friends.

Memorials may be made to the Children’s Educational Trust Fund, in care of Jane King, 2161 120th St., Red Oak, Iowa 51566.

Hallie Blackstock Powell

MEXIA — Funeral services for Hallie Blackstock Powell, 75, of Mexia, formerly of Frankston, were held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville, with the Rev. Robert Herzig officiating, according to information received by friends here.

Burial followed in the Arnett Cemetery, Arnett, Texas.

Mrs. Powell died Sunday, Aug. 24.

Mrs. Powell was born April 23, 1923, in Arnett to Ruby Afton Jones and Allen Hope Blackstock. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Groesbeck and a charter member of Frankston Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Powell was an accomplished seamstress.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, L.D. Powell Sr. of Mexia.; children, L.D. Powell Jr. and wife, Colleen of Humble, David L. Powell and wife, Judy of Livingston, Marcia Powell of Mexia; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; a brother, Dan Blackstock and wife, Betty of Mexia; one sister-in-law, Rosemary Blackstock of Rogers, Ark.; a brother-in-law, Robert Powell and wife, Pat of Houston; and numerous friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Weldon Blackstock; and a grandchild, Arron Smith.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Powell, Jason Powell, Chris Johnson, Chris Powell, Danny Blackstock, Robert Powell and Greg Blackstock.

William ‘Dub’ Albright Sr.

Funeral services for William “Dub” Albright Sr., 87, Frankston, were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Frankston High School auditorium with Gary Carter officiating.

Also on the program were scripture readings by granddaughters, Anterine Albright Jackson and Selina Marie Albright; tributes from sons, William D. Albright Jr. and Gerald A. Albright; resolutions from Mt. Olive Sand Flat Baptist Church in Frankston and Beulah Baptist Church; and a eulogy by Rev. John Quincy Adams.

Burial was in Mt. Olive Sand Flat Baptist Church Cemetery, Frankston, under direction of Mercy/McGowan Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mr. Albright died Monday, Sept. 8, in Tyler.

He was born June 23, 1916, in Cherokee County to George and Mozelle Cantley Albright.

Mr. Albright attended Texas College, Jarvis Christian College and UCLA. He lived in Los Angeles Calif. for 33 years and in Frankston for 29 years. Mr. Albright was a member of Mount Olive Sand Flat Baptist Church where he served as trustee and deacon. He was a retired postal supervisor and a member of Century Club of Jarvis Christian College and Lord of Top Ladies of Distinction. He served in the Army from 1943-1946.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie P. Albright, Frankston; sons, William D. Albright Jr., Gaithersburg, Md., and Gerald A. Albright, Moorpark, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Venard Owens, Melvin Owens, Leonard Owens, James Owens, Mario Thomas and Oscar L. Burks.

Honorary pallbearers were R.E. Pierson and Joe Reed II, deacons of Mount Olive Sand Flat Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Jarvis Christian College, Hawkins, Tex.

Imogene ‘Mollie’ Glasscock

Funeral services for Imogene ‘Mollie’ Glasscock, 77, of Tyler were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home with the Revs. Bill Bivens, Jamie Eitson and Gaylor Taylor officiating.

Interment was in Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery.

She died Friday, Aug. 29.

She was born Jan. 10, 1926, in the community of Reese near Jacksonville to the late Jesse P. and Ima Bearden.

Mrs. Glasscock was a graduate of Jacksonville High School. After moving with her parents to Tyler, she worked for Story-Wright Printing Co. until she retired and continued to work part time. She loved Southern Gospel music, was a self-taught organist and member of the House of Prayer.

Mrs. Glasscock was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Norma Lillian Bearden and Glinda Rains.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Barney Glasscock of Tyler; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Max Wallace of Tyler, Sandra and Mitch Ward of Tyler; grandsons, Ben Williamson USMC of Fredericksburg, Va., Justin Williamson USN of Norfolk, Va., and Chris Williams of Tyler; great-grandson, Seth Williams of Fredericksburg, Va.; sister, Naomi Hataway of Frankston; and number nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Chris Williams, Justin Williamson, Dewey H. Glasscock, Jeff Isham, Larry Rains and Gary Glasscock.

Honorary pallbearers were Paul Douglas, James Ward, Mike Douglas, Jon Hataway, J.W. Applegate and Doyce Bearden.

Charles Hubert Simpson Jr.

HOUSTON — A memorial service for Charles Hubert Simpson Jr. of Houston will be held in Humble on Sunday, Sept. 21, according to information received from relatives.

He died at his residence in Houston on Thursday, Sept. 4.

Mr. Simpson was born on April 20, 1922 in Palestine.

He had lived in Frankston during the 1930’s with his parents. Charles Hubert Simpson Sr., minister of First Baptist Church in Frankston, his mother, Gail Evans Parks Simpson and a brother, Billy Joe Simpson.

He was preceded in death by his parents who are buried in Palestine.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jennie Lenora McGill Simpson of Houston; a son, James Wayne (Jim) Simpson and wife, Janet Marie (Jan) Willliamson Simpson and their son Charles Alexander (Alex) Simpson of Langley, Wash.; his brother, W.J. (Billy Joe) Simpson and wife of Seminole, Fla.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill Terrell

WEBSTER — Funeral services for Bill Terrell, 65, of Webster were held Friday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at Webster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Woody Berry officiating under the direction of South Park Funeral Home.

Burial was in South Park Cemetery.

He died Tuesday, Sept. 9.

He was born to William Olan Terrell and Thelma Herrington Terrell on Oct. 15, 1937.

Mr. Terrell was a lifelong resident of the Houston area, being born in Pasadena and at the time of his death, living in Webster. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1955 and from the University of Houston. Mr. Terrell had worked at the Johnson Space Center for 38 years, most recently working in an engineering capacity in the Energy Systems Test Area for Lockheed-Martin Corp. He was at one time, co-owner of SWS Communications in Pasadena.

Mr. Terrell obtained his amateur radio license, W5DNE at the age of 16. He continued his love of amateur “ham” radio throughout his adulthood, having been active on both 2 meters as well as the HF bands. He was a member of the Houston Amateur Radio Club, the Pearland Radio Club, as well as being an active member of the men’s auxiliary of the Gulf Area Young Ladies Radio Klub. He also was active with the Amateur Radio Campers Club.

Mr. Terrell had a great love for flying, having obtained a private pilot’s license and co-owned a small plane at one time. His love of flying extended to the CAF and the wings Over Houston Air Show, which he had worked every year since the show’s inception in 1985. He also served on the Wings Over Houston Air Show staff, being in charge of amateur radio communications at the air show since 1986, overseeing the communication activities of 50 to 60 volunteers each day of the air show. He, as well as his wife, were members of the Bay Port Acre.

He is preceded in death by his father; and his first wife, Betty.

Survivors include his wife, Christina Ronshausen-Terrell; sons, Jeffrey Lynn Terrell and his wife Kathy Jean of League City, Mark Terrell of Lake Jackson; a granddaughter, Lauren Terrell of Lake Jackson; his mother, Thelma Terrell of Frankston; brothers, Jerald Terrell and his wife Sherry of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jerry Terrell, David Terrell and his wife Colleen, all of Pasadena; plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Lloyd Pipes

RUSK — Funeral services for Lloyd Pipes, 84, of Rusk were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville with the Rev. Ray Robbins officiating.

Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Maydelle.

Mr. Pipes died Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Tyler.

He was born March 31, 1919, in Frankston to Claude and Eunice Lloyd Pipes.

Mr. Pipes graduated from Frankston High School and attended Wichita University and The University of Texas. He served in the Army Air Corps, flying 34 combat missions over Europe during World War II. He was a member of the Caterpillar Club and was a 32nd degree Mason for more than 50 years. Mr. Pipes was a former president and director of First State Bank of Rusk and was owner and director and board chairman of the Crockett State Bank.

He was director and vice president of Empire Life Insurance Co., and Cherokee County Cripple Children’s Assn. He was a former president of the Rusk Lions Club, Rusk Chamber of Commerce, East Texas Bankers Assn. and zone chairman of Lions International. He was a past director of American Bankers Assn. He was a director of Rusk Industrial Foundation, Cherokee County Tuberculosis Assn. and Cherokee County Wildlife Assn. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his many years of work with the Boy Scouts of America; served on the first Cherokee County Airport Board; and assisted in the building of the airport. Mr. Pipes was a former member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the board of stewards. He was a member of First Congregational Methodist Church of Rusk at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Bobbe Pipes Atwood of Frankston;

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jimye Arnwine Pipes; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Dina Pipes of Crockett, Steven and Annette Pipes of Plano; three grandsons, Brandon and Blake Pipes of College Station, and Cameron Pipes of Plano.

Pallbearers were Johnnie McKay, Lewie Byers, James P. Richards, Bill Holland, Tom Haddock, Raymond Vermillion, Howard “Hank” Watson and Don Crawford.

Honorary pallbearers were James Long, Charles Long, Robert Stover, Smith Satterwhite, Lester Hughes, Bob Mattox, James Campbell, Dustin Hood, Shelor Edmiston, H.B. “Mutt” Knox, Bill Clark, John Fuchs Jr., Hobb Atwood, Earl Finley, Dr. Bill Hyman, Dr. Brock Lutz, Dr. Jonathan Markowitx, Jan Morrison, staff of ETMC-Tyler and Tyler Cancer Center, and members of First Congregational Methodist Church of Rusk.

Memorials may be made in honor of Mr. Pipes to the charity of the donor’s choice.
