Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Jeffery Glenn Carter

Jeffery Glenn Carter, 54, of Frankston, left this earth for his heavenly home  Nov. 4, 2020 at home.

He was born to Joye (Hendrix) Carter and Horace Carter March 21, 1966 in Garland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steve Carter and step-father, Woody Arnold.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sabrina Carter; his children, Matthew Carter of Frankston, Daniel Carter of Frankston, Holly Allen and husband, Camon of Colorado Springs, CO, Lily Carter of Frankston; and a brother, Craig Carter and wife, Rhonda, of Frankston.

He adored his children and made sure that if he knew something, that they could learn it too. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, attending flea markets and swap meets. He loved talking and witnessing and never met a stranger. He will be missed by friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Chapel in Frankston on Friday, Nov. 13, 2020 at 2 p.m.


Frances Folmar Harley

A funeral service for Frances Folmar Harley is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 15, 2020 at Autry Funeral Home, Frankston with Bro. George Folmar officiating. She will be laid to rest at Frankston City Cemetery.

Frances passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020 in Tyler.

Visitation will begin on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Frances Folmar Harley of Frankston was born on June 2, 1934 in Poynor to the late George Alfred and Jnetta Martin Folmar. Frances married Q.W. Harley on August 16, 1951. She spent most of her life as a resident of Frankston and a member of the First Baptist Church. After getting married, Frances was employed at the Jacksonville Sewing Factory and Frankston Box Company until deciding to stay home to raise her children and later her grandchildren.

She loved her family more than anything and was a true matriarch they could always rely on. Her home was always open to her family and friends. She shared her talent of cooking with all that knew her. Cooking was one of ways to show her love and care to others. She always had enough food to feed an army. She was outgoing and full of love and laughter. You were sure to smile if you ever encountered her. Frances will be profoundly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Alfred and Jnetta Folmar; husband, Q.W. Harley; brother, Kenneth Folmar; daughter, Kathy Harley.

Survivors include her daughter, Reba McCurley and husband Don, Chandler; son, Rickie Harley, Frankston; sister, Genevieve Jones, Frankston; sister-in-law Elizabeth Bell, Edom; grandchildren, Regena Calcote, Rickey Harley, Eric Taylor and wife Leah, Katy Roberts; great-grandchildren, Austin Calcote, Kali Calcote, Korey Roberts, Trenton Taylor, Harlee Skye Taylor.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Wofford, Allen Hughes, Earl Lang, Gordon Folmar, Charles "Chuck" Harley, and Albert Rogers. Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Nolan, Frank Tucker, Tommy Taylor, Jimmy Harley, Olan Harley, Wayne Phillips, and Danny Hazelip.


Helen Elaine (Howell) Malone

Helen Elaine (Howell) Malone was born Oct. 16, 1943 and entered eternal life on Nov. 15, 2020. She was 77 years old.

A graveside service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020 at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Frankston. Bro. Ken Sommerville will officiate.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Elaine was a member of The United Methodist Church of Frankston. She was a devoted and loving mother and mamaw. Elaine was an associate at Walmart where she retired in 2009 after 27 years. She was kind and welcoming to every person she encountered and never met a stranger. She always kept those around her laughing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Alma (Cole) Howell; sisters, Lynn Smith, Ann Hodges, and Pauline Getzie; and brothers, Edward Howell, Clifford Howell, and Brady Howell.

Elaine is survived by her daughter, Joely Causey and husband Steve of Jacksonville; grandsons, Brian Causey and Blake Causey; brother-in-law, James “Gip” Smith of Houston; sister-in-law, Helen Howell of Canton; numerous nieces and nephews; and her four-legged daughter, Molly.

Honorary pallbearers are Craig Smith, Steve Causey, Brian Causey, Blake Causey, Donald Causey, Dalton Causey, Trent Causey, Jimmie Causey, and Rondey Thompson.

Carlton Eugene “Gene” Ethredge

Carlton Eugene “Gene” Ethredge was born Feb. 28, 1943 to Noble Curtis and Mildred Margaret (Foster) Ethredge and entered eternal life on Nov. 19, 2020. He was 77 years old.

A memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Poynor. Bro. Paul Diepenbruck will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Eugene was a member of First Baptist Church, Poynor. He was an  employee of Hunt Oil Co. for 38 years, retiring in 2003. In his leisure time, he enjoyed being with family and friends, working with horses, trail riding and camping out, and always a good campfire story.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patsy Ethredge of Poynor; daughters, Nancy Carol Brown and husband Dr. James Travis Brown of Frankston and Shelley Marie Strange and husband Jim Strange of Athens; sisters, Charlotte Marie Ethredge of Poynor and Marcia Stallings of Kilgore. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Casey James Brown of Frankston, Laura Ashlie Byrd and husband Rick Byrd of Frankston, and Calley McKenzie Cole of Kilgore; two nieces, Jayanna  Laird and Leslie  Jennings; two great-nephews; and one great-niece.

Hugh Autrey

Graveside services for Hugh Autrey, 83, of Frankston have been scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 1, 2020 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving, Texas with Pastor Tom Saali officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.

Mr. Autrey passed away Friday Nov. 27, 2020 in Athens.

He was born Nov. 29, 1938 in Jacksonville, Texas to Weldon Fealon Autrey and Katheryn Iry. Hugh was born in Jacksonville but raised in Kilgore. Hugh was a graduate of Kilgore High School where he excelled in track. He received a scholarship in track from North Texas State where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Hugh’s career was in the Fragrance Business and it spanned 40-plus years working for company’s like Liz Claiborne, Clinique, Borghesa and many others until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Beverly Autrey of Frankston; sons Burke Autrey and wife Charla of Carrollton, Brett Autrey and wife Kristy of Plano; step-daughter Misti Ferguson of Dallas; five grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, along with numerous nieces and nephews.


Nelda Henderson Melton

Nelda Henderson Melton was born July 14, 1932 and entered eternal life on Nov. 28, 2020. She was 88 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020 at Autry Funeral Home, Frankston. Chris Herrin and Dr. David Broussard will officiate. A graveside service will be held at Wofford Cemetery immediately following.

Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home, Frankston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lector Henderson and Mae Glaze; husband, H.E. Melton; daughter, Genelda Scheideman; granddaughter, Rebecca Bryans; and sisters Elaine Griffin, Frankie Buchanan, and Maxine Wheeler.

Nelda is survived by her daughter, Renee Herrin of Rowlett and son, Frank Melton and wife Thressa of Frankston; her brothers, Harold Henderson and wife Betty of Bullard and Ronnie Henderson and wife Pat of Frankston. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, James Herrin and his wife Mallory, Chris Herrin and his wife Bethany, Ricky Hunt, Kerry Hunt and Brittany Nash, as well as numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Harold Henderson, Ronnie Henderson, James Herrin, Chris Herrin, Ricky Hunt, and Kerry Hunt. Honorary pallbearers will be Korben Hunt and Nathan Bronner.
