William Hunter ‘Dub’ Gatlin

Funeral services for William Hunter “Dub” Gatlin, 69, of Berryville, formerly of Pasadena, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at the HillTop Baptist Church in Berryville with the Rev. James Engle and the Rev. Ron Ivey officiating.

Burial was at the Garden Oaks Memorial Park in Berryville under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mr. Gatlin died Monday, Nov. 4 at his residence.

He was born Oct. 29, 1933 in Palestine to Willie Henry and Jessie Odel Fitzgerald Gatlin. He was a member of the HillTop Baptist Church of Berryville. He attended school in Elkhart and played on the high school football team, graduating in 1951. He married and moved to Pasadena where he was employed by Rohm and Haas for over 40 years. After retirement, he moved to Lake Palestine overseeing Muldoon’s Lagoon RV park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Henry and Jessie Odel Fitzgerald Gatlin.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Joanne Gatlin, Berryville; son, Bruce Gatlin, Frankston; daughters and sons-in-law: Sharon Gail and Gary Chinnis, Deer Park; Vickie and Allan Hartman, Deer Park and Diane Harvick, Frankston; sisters, Veda Ashby, Tyler; Barbara Farrow, Tyler; Bonnie Simon, Georgia; Ruth Shipper, Tyler; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Shane Gatlin, J.D. Mize, Steven Mize, Timothy Gatlin, Shaun Schexnider, Gary Moss and Gary Chinnis.

James H. Vowell

Memorial services for James H. Vowell, 70, of Frankston were held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at Thompson Funeral Home in Frankston with Rev. Dale Singer officiating.

Mr. Vowell died Friday, Oct. 25, in Frankston.

He was born Sept. 29, 1932 in Fort Worth. Mr. Vowell was a retired mechanic, a Baptist and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda R. Vowell of Frankston; sons, Brian Thomas Vowell of San Diego, CA and David Monroe Vowell of Coffee City; a daughter, Sheri Mae Saulter of Weatherford; a step sister and husband, Jeannie and Sam Fox of Weatherford; and three grandchildren.

David Adkins

Graveside services for David Neil Adkins, 52, of Frankston were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Garden Oaks Memorial Park, Berryville, with the Rev. Ron Ivey officiating, under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Mr. Adkins died Tuesday, Nov. 5, at his residence.

He was born March 23, 1950 in Anderson, Ind., and served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Mr. Adkins was a self employed welder and member of HillTop Baptist Church of Berryville.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Adkins, Frankston; a son, Thomas Neil Adkins, Dallas; parents, Richard and Wilma Adkins, Holiday Hills; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Rita Adkins, Mount Selman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pamela Hill, Eureka, Calif., Becky and Warner Rindfleisch, Dallas, and Penny and Dewayne Joplin, Palestine; two step grandchildren, Brandon Swann and Brittney Swann, nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Michael Adkins, Keith Jones, Cory Crisp, Tony Joplin, Roger Nolen and Hollis Tipton.

Nora Handley Myrick

Funeral services for Nora Handley Myrick, 78, of Reese were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Thompson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Burial was at the Reese Cemetery.

Mrs. Myrick died Sunday, Nov. 10 at her home.

She was born in Reese on Aug. 8, 1924. After a childhood spent in Reese, Pritchett and Jacksonville and graduation from Jacksonville High School and Lon Morris College, she moved to the Dallas area to work during World War II. In Dallas she met and married Doyce Myrick of Denison.

The Myricks returned to Reese to live and raise their family. Mr. and Mrs. Myrick worked together in the wholesale floral industry until their retirement.

Mrs. Myrick was a member of the Frankston Church of Christ and was active in the Prison Ministry and Ladies’ and Youth Activities. Through the years, Mrs. Myrick was active in the P-TA in Jacksonville Schools, the High School Band Booster Club, the Art League, the West Jacksonville Water Co-op Board and the Reese Community Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ollie Handley; husband, Doyce Myrick; brother, David Handley; and a nephew, Davey Handley.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Isha Myrick of Tyler; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Todd Smithgall of Houston; grandchildren, Kristi Myrick Wiggins, Angie Myrick Daughtry, Cindy Myrick, Robert Myrick, and Paul Wesley Myrick; sisters, Nadine Ingram and Barbara Detwiler both of Reese, and Mary Lee of Bonham; great aunts, Florence Larson and Lena Ray, both of Reese; four great-grandchildren, 18 nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Pallbearers were her nephews and cousins.

George Pelkey

Funeral services for George James Pelkey, 88, of Frankston were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Hilliard Funeral Home chapel in Van with Trent Goodwin officiating.

Burial was in Marvin Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Pelkey died Friday, Nov. 8, in a Frankston nursing home.

He was born Oct. 19. 1914, in Lynn, Mass., and lived in the Frankston area 22 years.

Mr. Pelkey was a Methodist and retired from GE Company. He was awarded the safe driver award as a truck driver and served in the Army, receiving the Military Combat Honor Badge.

Mr. Pelkey was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Pelkey.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Pelkey, Frankston; sons, David Roach, Flint, and Ronald Roach, Tyler; brother, Arthur Pelkey, Danvers, Mass.; sister, Norma Gordon, Schenectady, N.Y.; six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Trent Goodwin, Trey Goodwin, Donnie Khetzel, James Kear, Joe Galvan and Brandon Ridenhover.

Charles ‘Luppy’ Scarbrough

Graveside services for Charles “Luppy” Scarbrough, 92, of Poynor, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Fincastle Cemetery near Poynor, with Rev. Dale Ward officiating, under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mr. Scarbrough died Sun, Nov. 10, at his residence.

He was born April 30, 1910 in Quanah, Tex. Mr. Scarbrough was a rancher, served in the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant during World War II in China. Burma and India.

Mr. Scarbrough was preceded in death by his wife, Sella Mae Scarbrough.

Survivors include his son, Charles Scarbrough Jr. of Arlington; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Harmon Virgil Averyt

Graveside services for Harmon Virgil Averyt, 98, of Yuma, Ariz., formerly of Frankston, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Frankston City Cemetery under direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mr. Averyt died Tuesday, Nov. 12, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 12, 1903 in Orraville, Ala. He was supervisor of Yuma office of Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph 1944-1969 and AT&T - U.S. West 1929-1969. Mr. Averyt was a member of the Stone Ridge Church, Telephone Company Pioneers, Telegraph Club and Shriners. He attended Frankston High School and Business College in Tyler.

Mr. Averyt was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Masters Averyt; sisters, Jewell Whitehead and Marguerite Gladden; brothers, George and Milton Averyt; and parents, George and Lockie Averyt.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mallie Averyt of Frankston; nieces, Dot Clark of Frankston and Shirley Hill of Texas; nephews, Dee Averyt, George Harmon Averyt, Jerry W. Averyt, Tom Whitehead and Jack Whitehead, all of Texas and Dr. Ronnie Averyt of Kansas.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Guy Lambright

LARUE — Funeral services for Guy Robert Lambright, 79, of LaRue were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Foster & Brown Funeral Home chapel in Athens, with the Rev. John E. Green officiating.

Burial was in County Line Cemetery.

Mr. Lambright died Monday, Nov. 11, in Athens.

He was born Nov. 26, 1933, in Glenrose to the late Tracey and Ethel Gray Lambright. Mr. Lambright retired from the Texas Forest Service and was a Methodist.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce DeHart.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Alletta Lambright, LaRue; sons, Guy Ray Lambright, Leagueville, and Timmy Lambright, Athens; a daughter, Rose Baker, Athens; sisters, Mattie Lou Holley and Norman Hillhouse, both of Athens; a brother, Bryant Lambright, Humbolt, Kan.; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Perry Denton, Terry Denton, Bud Willingham, Jerry Willingham, Kenneth Lookabaugh, John Crossley, Gerald Hilton and Marvin Miller.

Honorary pallbearers were John Forester, Durwood Dingler, Joe H. Miller, Gary Bowman and members of Texas Forest Service.

Donald Bonine Jaynes

Donald Bonine Jaynes, 81, of Garden City Beach, S. C., formerly of Frankston, died Monday, Oct. 28 at Prince George Health Care Center in South Carolina.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, with full military honors.

Additional memorial services will be held at a later date in Colorado.

Mr. Jaynes, the son of the late Carl Van Jaynes and Mary Viola (Bonine) Jaynes Carrington, was born Jan. 1921, in Noodle, Jones County, Texas.

He as preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters, E.C. Jaynes, Melvin Jaynes, Lillian (Jaynes) Gray Pierson, Vivian (Jaynes) Murphey, Ellis Carrington, Emmitt Carrington, Dennis Carrington, Timothy A. Carrington Jr., Leonard Carrington, Royal Carrington and Charles Owen Carrington.

He was a retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He had been a B17 and B49 Bomber pilot in World War II, flying 25 missions over Germany.

Mr. Jaynes had been assigned to the Eighth Air Force, 379th Bombardment Group in Kimbolton, England.

He retired to the Cripple Creek, Colo., area, where he was involved in real estate sales with Wiedman & Co. and served as Teller County treasurer and past president of the Two Mile High Club, and also served on the library and hospital boards.

Mr. Jaynes was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 316 where he was the past Exalted Ruler, past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler and past State President of Colorado Elks Assn.

He served as chairman of Elks Grand Lodge Americanism Committee. He was a 32nd degree Mason and past Master of Lodge No. 96 AF&AM, past Worthy Patron of Gold Nugget Chapter No. 30 and lifetime member of Scottish Rite Consistory No. 1 in Denver, and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Retired Officers Assn.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Genelle (Corley) Jaynes; daughters, Gwendolyn Haase of Portland, Ore., and Barbara Franklin of Garden City Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren, Michelle Steele of Oregon, Harold Franklin of California, Renee Franklin of Surfside Beach, S.C., and Laura Sweirski of Charlotte, N.C.; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia Carrington Campbell and her husband, Charles Campbell of Frankston; a brother-in-law, Dudley Murphey; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Carrington and Dorothy Jaynes, all of Frankston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carrie ‘Doll’ Dosier

Funeral services for Carrie “Doll” Dosier, 91, of Poynor were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Steve Handley officiating.

Burial was held at the Poynor Cemetery.

Mrs. Dosier died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002 in Baytown.

She was born Jan. 11, 1911 in Denton. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ.

Preceding her in death, were her husband, Calvin Dosier and sons, Joe and Mickey Dosier.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth E. Dosier, Marshall and Charles and Elsie Dosier, Marshall; daughter and son-in-law: Betty Ruth and J.L. Brown, Channelview; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.

Jack Fred Walker

LARUE — Funeral services for Jack Fred Walker, 74, of LaRue, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Sands Springs Baptist Church with Brother Joe Smith and Brother Cecil officiating.

Burial was at LaRue Cemetery under direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home, Athens.

Mr. Walker died Friday, Nov. 22, in Tyler.

He was born Oct. 27, 1928, in Trinidad to Fred Jeff and Nellie Wilson Walker. He was a rural carrier 38 years for the United States Postal Service. Mr. Walker was a farmer, rancher and a member of Sands Springs Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Madison Nicole Miller, Nov. 24, 2000; and sister, Francis Savage.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Bettie Lou Walker, LaRue; daughters, Johnnie Harris, LaRue, and Lynn Della Wymore, New York; son, Billy G. and Tanya Marie Miller, LaRue; brother, James H. Walker, Houston; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Jim Jezek, James Dunn, John McMakin, Bill Casey, Billy Harris, Kerry Harris, Joe Graham and Mike Smith.

Don Gaston

Funeral services for Don Gaston, 50, of Frankston, formerly of Dallas, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home chapel, Lindale, with the Rev. Phil Nottingham officiating.

Burial was at Dover Cemetery.

Mr. Gaston died Sunday, Nov. 24, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born Feb. 6, 1952 in Sweetwater to Henry Washington and Barbara Ann Smith Gaston. He lived in Dallas prior to moving to Frankston in April 2002, and owned and operated Don’s Paint and Body in Pleasant Grove for more than 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Debora Gaston, Frankston; son, Craig Gaston, Dallas; daughter, Jackie Gaston, Kaufman; mother, Barbara Ann McNally, Dallas; sisters, Gayle King, Kaufman, and Kathy Gaston, Carrollton; two grandsons; and one uncle.

Pallbearers were Gary Adcock, John Westberry, Keith Westberry, Kirby Smith, Larry Busby and Gary Calloway.
