We will add pictures to archived obituaries from the print version of The Citizen newspaper prior to September 2019 when available. Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Mrs. Tommye Stringfield

Funeral services for Mrs. Tommye Stringfield, 92, of Poynor, were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 at Poynor Baptist Church with Brother Jeff Godwin officiating.

Burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Henderson under direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Stringfield died Oct. 25 in Poynor.

She was born Aug. 2, 1909 in Rusk to Mamie Fain Andrews and John Andrews. She attended Rusk schools and was president of the last graduating class from Rusk College before the college closed during the Great Depression.

She signed her first teaching contract at age 18 and later received her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Marcos College.

Mrs. Stringfield taught first grade most of her career before retiring in 1972. She taught at Iron Hill near Rusk, Pert, Neches, Mount Vernon, Spring Hill and at LaPoynor. At LaPoynor she spent a total of 33 years out of 44 years in teaching.

She was very involved in her community, serving as secretary of the city council beginning when the city was incorporated in 1973. The Poynor City Park was dedicated in her honor.

She served as Sunday School teacher at Poynor Baptist Church and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, professional teachers organization, the Texas State Teachers Assn., and the Texas Retired Teachers Assn.

She was married to George Tipton Sr., and Leon Stringfield of Poynor, both deceased.

Survivors include sister, Judith Andews Adams of Paris; nephew, Dan Johnson, Kingwood; nieces, Karol Asey and Karen Adams of Paris, Gladys Allen of Beaumont, Bobbye Brethouwer of Alto.

Pallbearers were Dennis Clayton, Paul Elliott, Kevin Lyons, Richard Holcomb, Alton Gracey and Wendell Stringfield.

Honorary pallbearers were Buster Stringfield, Lloyd Hanks, Milton Butler, Bill Westbrook, Wayne Bristow, Wayne Carrell, Jimmy Pope and Norman Cramer.

Lucille Cook

Funeral services for Lucille Cook, 84, of Frankston, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Frankston Church of Christ with Oles Pinson and Chris White officiating.

Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Mrs. Cook died Wednesday, Oct. 24, in a San Antonio hospital.

She was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Frankston.

Mrs. Cook was a homemaker and a former Frankston School employee. She was a member of Frankston Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son, Barry Cook of Frankston; a daughter, Janet Warrington of Fredricksburg; a brother, Jack Warrington of Palestine; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joann and Buck Johnson, and Jean and Art Reese, of Palestine; sisters-in-law, Jean Nix of Palestine, Vivian Cook of Odessa, and Odessa Mitchell of Lake Palestine; two grandchildren, Brandon Warrington and Steven Warrington; two great-grandchildren, Madison Warrington and Mackenzie Warrington; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Allen Warrington, James Keith Warrington, David E. Warrington, Mike Reese, Bobby Johnson, Charles Nap Campbell, Adam Warrington, Timothy Warrington, David Warrington and Jeffery Warrington.

Honorary pallbearers were Herbert Riley, G.V. “Bo” Ousley, J.C. Hicks and Clifford Emerson.

Memorials may be made to Frankston Church of Christ.

Roy Cade

Funeral services for Roy Cade, 98, Berryville were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7 in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Clark Dugger officiating.

Burial followed in the Old Bethel Cemetery in Frankston.

Mr. Cade died Monday, Nov. 5 in a Tyler hospital.

He was born July 3, 1903 in Edom.

He was a retired painter/contractor.

Mr. Cade was a member of the Church of Christ in Tyler.

Survivors include David L. Cade, Huntsville and J.W. Cade, Marshall; daughter, Neva Tinney, Frankston and Alene Adams, Louisville, Ky; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers included David Mann, Steve Cade, Robert Cade, Tim Cade, Alan Mann and Tony Cade.

Myrtle Tarrant

Funeral services for Myrtle Tarrant, 93, of Bullard, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Boren-Conner Funeral Home Elliott Memorial Chapel, Bullard, with Johnny Anders officiating.

Burial was in the Tarrant Family Cemetery, south of Bullard.

Mrs. Tarrant died Thursday, Nov. 1, in a Tyler hospital.

She was born, Dec. 2, 1907 near Frankston to the late Francis Marion (Boss) and Lovetta Elizabeth (Taylor) Levassar. She grew up in Frankston and lived most of her life in Bullard.

Mrs. Tarrant was in the Frankston High School Class of 1926. She was a homemaker and a retired postal employee. Having served in the Frankston, Houston main office, Mount Selman and Bullard offices, she retired with over 25 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack, Bill and Cooter; and a sister, Arzie.

Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Robert L. Tarrant, Bullard; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mary Anne Tarrant, Bullard; two grandsons, Jim Tarrant, Jr. and Ken Tarrant, both of Bullard; five great-grandchildren, all of Bullard.

Pallbearers were Jack Cheek, Howard Cables, Pete Westbrook, Don Wager, Jack Tarrant and Dub Riza.

Mrs. Tarrant was related to two Past Presidents of Baylor University, Dr. W.T. “Bill” White and Dr. Herbert H. Reynolds.

Sharon Vaillencourt

Memorial services for Sharon Vaillencourt, 64, Frankston, formerly of Indiana, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2,, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating.

Mrs. Vaillencourt died Friday, Nov. 2 in a Tyler hospital.

She was born Jan. 27, 1937 in Bluffto, Ind. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, James Vaillencourt of Frankston; sons, Bruce Foreman and Mark Foreman, both of Indiana; a step-son, James Vaillencourt Jr. of San Antonio; a daughter, Jovanaha Vaillencourt Rhodes of Tyler; step-daughters, Rebecca Knight of Brownsboro, Sarita Lynn Thomas of Grand Saline and Sonya Rene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucille Bizzell Boles

Funeral services for Lucille Bizzell (Cook) Boles, 84, of Frankston were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston, with Rev. J.A. Griffin and Rev. Eddie Hilburn officiating.

Burial was at the Frankston City Cemetery.

Mrs. Boles died Wednesday, Nov. 7, in a Tyler hospital.

She was born Aug. 29, 1917, in Frankston to Lawson and Ellen Bizzell and was the youngest of 14 children.

She was a retail clerk at Raymond Men’s Shop in Crockett for 15 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Frankston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawson and Ellen Bizzell; two husbands, Joe Dean Cook and Herschel Boles; 10 sisters and three brothers; several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Jo (Cook) Gideon, son-in-law, Wayne Gideon of Frankston; one grandson, David Wayne Gideon; two granddaughters, Pat (Gideon) Ludwig, and Gail (Gideon) Feagans and husband, Brad Feagans; one great-grandson, Brandon Feagans; six great-granddaughters, Lindsey and Kellie Ludwig, Nancee Feagans, Mavianne, Amanda, and Shanni Gideon; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Elmer Gene Birdwell, Dana Bizzell, Ryan Bizzell, Bobby Bradford, Gordon Folmar, Larry Selman, Joey Maxwell and Larry Lummus.

Honorary pallbearers were Billy Wayne Bizzell, Joe Dick Monk, T.L. Beard, Jeff Ludwig, Pete Beard, George Tipton and Lloyd Pipes.

Vivian Viola Murphey

Funeral services for Vivian Viola Murphey, 78, of Frankston were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the Assembly of God in Frankston with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating.

Burial was in the Liberty Hill Cemetery near Frankston with arrangements by Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mrs. Murphey died Thursday, Nov. 8, in a Tyler hospital.

She was born Sept. 26, 1923 in Merkel.

Mrs. Murphey was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God.

Survivors include her husband, Lewis Dudley Murphey of Frankston; sons and daughters-in-laws, James Larry and Faye Murphey of Irving, Richard Dudley and Debra Murphey, and David Murphey, both of Frankston; a brother, Lt. Col. Donald Jaynes of Colorado; a half-sister, Sylvia Campbell of Frankston; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Brian Murphey, Scooter Murphey, Rusty Murphey, Keith Campbell, Charles Campbell and Jeff Powell.

C.E. ‘Gene’ Paris

Funeral services for C.R. “Gene” Paris, 74, of Frankston were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Rev. Sam DeVille officiating.

Burial was at Garden Oaks Memorial Park in Berryville.

Mr. Paris died Wednesday, Nov. 7, at his residence.

He was born July 1, 1927 in Fort Worth.

Mr. Paris was a retired Intrastate driver for Merchants Trucking Co. and was a member of Flint Baptist Church in Flint.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Paris of Frankston; a daughter, Jackie Lynn Black of The Colony; brothers, J.R. Paris of Canton and Jack Paris of Dallas; a grandson, Nathan Paris Black of The Colony; a great-granddaughter, Kacie Jo Black of The Colony; and several nephews.
