Benjamen Jason Talley

Funeral services for Technical Sergeant Benjamen Jason Talley, 29, of San Antonio were held Tuesday, May 2 at Poynor Baptist Church with Lee Welch and Martin McRae officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston. Burial was in New York Cemetery.

A military memorial was scheduled for Saturday, May 6 at 10 a.m. at the Lackland AFB Chapel.

He passed away Tuesday, April 25.

Jason was born Nov. 28, 1976 in Fort Worth but lived most of his younger life in the Athens area. He was a graduate of LaPoynor High School and attended Trinity Valley Community College before his entrance into the United States Air Force. He served at Offutt AFB in Omaha, Nebraska, USAF Academy in Colorado Springs and Lackland AFB in San Antonio. He had also served deployments to Saudi Arabia, Oman and Uzbekistan.

He had just begun an intense study in the Air Force Independent Duty Medical Technician School. It was his desire to become a doctor.

He was highly noted and recognized by his commanders and peers with honors and decorations during his ten year military career. He actively participated in the various ministries of his local church, Calvary Baptist Church in San Antonio. He served as drummer to a newly organized young adult band and was mentor to the youth.

Survivors include his wife, Misty Dawn Talley of San Antonio; parents Ben and Lynda Talley of Las Vegas, New Mexico; brother Scott M. Talley of Little Elm; sister Valerie P. Benton of Bonham; maternal grandmother Thelma Farmer of Richmond, Missouri; paternal grandfather Ben A. Talley of Claude; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorials be given to local churches and mission efforts.

Faye Ellis

Funeral services for Faye Ellis, 68, of Flint were held Wednesday, May 10 at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Michael officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery.

Mrs. Ellis passed away Friday, May 5.

She was born April 26, 1938 in Dallas. She was a bookkeeper for Electro-Plating and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband Gurlen Ellis of Dogwood City; son William Gene Ellis of League City; daughters Sherrie Taylor of Dogwood City and Janis Ellis of Dallas; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were David Byers, Phil Atterbery, Bill Young, Jerry Harris, David Garlo and Mario Chavez.

Eva Victoria Smith

Funeral services for Eva Victoria Smith, 93, of Frankston were held Monday, May 8 at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith passed away Friday, May 5.

She was born October 9, 1912 in Cherokee County. She was a homemaker and a member of Frankston Assembly of God.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Reed Smith, son Elton Smith, and grandson Ronnie Hollingsworth.

Survivors include son Tony Smith of Frankston; daughters and son-in-law Pauline Hollingsworth, Opaline and Troy McDonald, all of Frankston, and Mildred Tillman of Garland; sister Leva Urssery of Rawls; sister-in-law Doris George of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Rayburn Hollingsworth, Keith Tillman, Brian Smith, Jason Hollingsworth, Jerry Boles and Wayne Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Shaun Smith, Nathan Myers, Matthew Patman and Jeremy Patman.

Charles Lee Parsley

Graveside services for Charles Lee Parsley, 59, of Gilmer were held Wednesday, May 17 at Olive Branch Cemetery in Brushy Creek with Pastor Debra D. Dean officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Mr. Parsley passed away Sunday, May 14.

He was born March 22, 1947 in Houston. He was a mechanic and operator of heavy machinery. He was a member of AARP.

Mr. Parlsey was preceded in death by a brother, Ric Allen Parsley.

Survivors include his parents Donald Ray and Minnie Ruth Parsley of Onalaska; brothers Dan Parsley and Robert Parsley, both of Onalaska; sisters Vicky White of Houston and Nora Beth Sellars of Frankston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Raymond “Bub” Bloxom

Graveside services for Raymond “Bub” Bloxom, 86, of Frankston were held Tuesday, May 23 at Frankston City Cemetery with son, John D. Bloxom officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Mr. Bloxom passed away Friday, May 19.

He was born March 29, 1920 in Jacksonville. He was a Baptist.

Mr. Bloxom retired as a lieutenant colonel of the U.S. Army in 1969. He served in the army for 28 years. He served during World War II and was with the 82nd Airborne Division in Europe and Vietnam. During that time he was stationed in Germany, Saudi Arabia and Alaska.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Betty Jo Bloxom of Frankston; sons and daughters-in-law James S. and Sarah Bloxom of Teaselville, Raymond “Rusty” Bloxom, Jr. of Liberty, and John D. and Debby Bloxom of Waco; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; niece Brenda Jaggers of Frankston; and nephew Jimmy Bloxom of Colorado.

Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Bloxom, Tommy Jaggers, Ronnie Atwood, Smokey McClendon, Oneal Smith, Jack Miller, Doug Richardson and Ken Helfman.

Wayne Landis, Sr.

Funeral services for Wayne Landis, Sr., 72, of Frankston are pending with Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Mr. Landis passed away Saturday, May 20.

He was born January 20, 1934.

Sophia Rasmussen

Memorial services for Sophia Rasco Rasmussen, 77, of Poynor were held Friday, May 19 at the First Baptist Church, Poynor with Rev. Martin McRae and Rev. Jeff Godwin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

She passed away Tuesday, May 16.

Mrs. Rasmussen was born October 7, 1928 in Brownsville. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Poynor. She was very active in the church and with the youth and enjoyed doing arts and crafts. Her family remembers her as “a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.”

Survivors include her husband of 57 years Robert “Bob” Rasmussen of Poynor; sons and daughters-in-law Mark Alan and Rosie Rasmussen of Corpus Christi, and Robert Dane and Danita Rasmussen of Jacksonville, Florida; daughters and son-in-law Catherine Ann Ullo of Plano, and Christi Jean and Garry Crafton of Mansfield; sisters Jane Woodward of Rowlett and Barbara Ann Dwyer of Corpus Christi; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lavern Horton Taylor

Graveside services for Lavern Horton Taylor, 89, of Kingwood were held Wednesday, May 24 at Resthaven Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. Bruce Webb officiating under direction of of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

She passed away Sunday, May 21.

Mrs. Taylor was born January 22, 1917 in Jacksonville. She was a retired school teacher and had taught for 41 years at Jacksonville ISD. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kingwood and a former member of Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville. She was a graduate of Jacksonville High School, Sam Houston State University and Stephen F. Austin. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, TSTA and past member of Daughters of the American Revolution and East Texas Quilter’s Guild.

Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by husband Raymond Taylor in 1996 and a sister Kathleen Wright in 2000.

Survivors include daugher and son-in-law Phyllis and John Davis of Kingwood; grandchildren and spouses Angela and Daniel Woyt of Kingwood, and Mark and Janice Davis of Montgomery; great-grandchildren Amber, Austin and Abby Woyt and Logan and Reagan Davis; and several nieces and nephews.

J.H. Williams

Funeral services for J.H. Williams, 77, of Frankston were held Monday, May 22 at United Methodist Church of Frankston with Rev. Doug Howell and Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston. Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery.

Mr. Williams passed away Saturday, May 20.

He was born November 7, 1929 in Frankston. He was a mill foreman for William Cameron Company and a member of United Methodist Church of Frankston.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harry E. Williams and Mike Williams.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marilyn Williams of Frankston; son John Mark Williams of Dallas; daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Gary Sanders of Henderson, and Sharon and Jimmy Brooks of Chandler; four grandsons, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Clarkston, Johnny Burks, Jerry Beard, Don Williams, James Beard and Tony Herrington.

Honorary pallbearers were Howard Wegmet, Jimmy Reynolds, Wilburn Campbell, Bobby Dan Richards and Billy Frank Bussey.
