Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

C.V. Hanks

Funeral services for C.V. Hanks, 88, of Poynor were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Elder Vernis Stanaland officiating.

Burial was at the Poynor Cemetery with arrangements by Thompson Funeral Home.

Mr. Hanks died Wednesday, April 24, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born Nov. 29, 1913 in Bastrop.

Mr. Hanks was a self employed carpenter and foreman at Shiloh Ranch. He was a member of Tyler Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Hanks of Poynor; a son, Charles Jimmy “Jim” Hanks of Poynor; daughters, Nancy Campbell and Vicky Ann Deal, both of Poynor; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren;

Pallbearers were Ben Haynes, Jacob Haynes, Eric Hanks, Jason Smith, Jeremy Burris and Joe Barrington.

Sherry Lou Corbell Meeks

Funeral services for Sherry Lou Corbell Meeks, 37, of Jacksonville were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27 in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. James Blaylock officiating.

Burial was at Meador Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Meeks died Wednesday, April 24 in Tyler, after a lengthy illness.

She was born Dec. 4, 1964 in Jacksonville, daughter of Ann and Henry Corbell.

Mrs. Meeks was an assistant librarian at Jacksonville Baptist College in Jacksonville for 10 years, and a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Dale Meeks of Jacksonville; a daughter Jo Ann Meeks of Jacksonville; parents, Ann and Henry Corbell of Jacksonville; grandmother, Rachel Meador of Jacksonville; mother and father-in-law, Margie and Gene Meeks of Bullard; brother and sister-in-law, Hank and Shaunna Corbell of Texarkana; sisters and brother-in-law, Pam and Rusty Sharp of Frankston, and Patty Burk of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Pete Sessions, Dan Holifield, Jeff White, Tommy Whitten, Tim Allen, Brian Taylor, Darrell Dement and Jimmy Beasley.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, Jacksonville Baptist College, Jacksonville Christian School, or Texas Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 308, Waxahachie, TX 75168.

Betty Jean Sadler

Graveside services for Betty Jean Sadler, 69, of Lubbock, formerly of Frankston, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Wofford Cemetery, Frankston, with Jerry Casey officiating, under direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mrs. Sadler died Saturday, April 27, in Lubbock.

She was born July 18, 1932 in Saltillo. Mrs. Sadler was a housewife and had lived in Frankston before moving to Lubbock.

Survivors include a son, Martin Love, of Monet, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Linda Meadows, Garland; a brother, Gary Max Crump, Lubbock; four grandchildren and two nephews and one niece.

Ricky Tarrant

Graveside services for Ricky Tarrant, 37, of North Richland Hills were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 29, at Roselawn Park with Rev. Beverly Tune officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mr. Tarrant died Thursday, April 25, at his residence in North Richland Hills.

He was born Aug. 24, 1964 in Fort Worth to Mickey and Jo Alice Jensen Tarrant.

Mr. Tarrant was a member of the First Christian Church of Bethel. He was employed by Southwestern Bell in the maintenance department.

Survivors include his parents, Mickey and Jo Tarrant of Fort Worth; his grandparents, L.R. and Ruth Tarrant of Palestine and Clemmie Jensen of Athens; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Eddie Kraatz of Fort Worth; and a nephew, Nate Kraatz of Fort Worth.

Jerry Lee Henderson

Graveside services for Jerry Lee Henderson, 57, of Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Wofford Cemetery near Frankston with Rev. James Farmer officiating.

Services were under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mr. Henderson died Friday, May 3, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 9, 1945 in Frankston and was a lifetime resident. Mr. Henderson was a Baptist.

Survivors include brothers, Homer J. Henderson and Robert “J.W.” Henderson, both of Frankston; sisters, Lorene Ivey of Edgewood, Abeline Johnson and Adeline Emmert, both of Ennis, Annie Doris Reid of Frankston, and Linda Kay Carlton of Palestine; several nieces and nephews.

Warren Fox

POYNOR — Graveside services for Warren Dean Fox, 52, of Poynor were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Myrtle Springs Cemetery, LaRue, under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mr. Fox died Saturday, May 11, in Poynor.

He was born Jan. 19, 1950 in Canada. He was in the construction business.

Survivors include sons, Jody Fox, McKinney and Shannen Fox, Dallas; his mother, Mary Fox, Dallas; brothers, Don Weaver, Muskogee, OK, Ed Fox, Germany, and Sammy Fox, Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Mary Belle Wootton, Amarillo, Alice Johnson, Terrell, Donna Chandler, Sue Meshell and Rila Fox, all of Dallas, and Diane Smith, Moore, OK; seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Derrell Norman, Chris Ethrich, Steven Johnson, Tommy Sharp, Tommy Johnson and Bobby Ivey.

Alma Jo Coats

Funeral services for Alma Jo Coats, 87, of Poynor, were held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 10, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Rev. Bill Boyd officiating.

Burial was at the Poynor Cemetery under direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Coats died Tuesday, May 7, in Tyler.

She was born Feb. 22, 1915 in Henderson County. Mrs. Coats was a librarian at LaPoynor ISD for 21 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Josie Wylie; her husband, Weldon Coats; and great granddaughter, Chelby White.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Beverly Coats of Poynor, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jody Coats, Joshua Coats, Jimmy Donahue, Jonathon Donahue, Cody Donahue and Lynn White.

Ernest Hackett

OVERTON — Funeral services for Ernest W. Hackett, 86, of Overton, formerly of Frankston, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 10, at First Baptist Church of Overton with the Revs. Louie Barron and Charles Paschall officiating.

Burial was in Mason Cemetery, Arp, under direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.

Mr. Hackett died Tuesday, May 7, in a Tyler hospital

He was born Aug. 27, 1915, in DeRidder, La., to the late Joseph Warren and Mary J. King Hackett. He was a graduate of Overton High School and served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Hackett was employed by Hunt Oil Company for 40 years and lived in Rockport and Frankston before retiring in 1980 and moving back to Overton.

He was a deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Overton, a 50-year member of Rocky Mount Masonic Lodge No. 63 in Overton, and member of Society of Petroleum Engineers for 12 years.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristie Sue Walker.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Christine Brandon Hackett, Overton; a daughter, Susan Walker, Baytown; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Bob Plunkett, William B. Plunkett, Scott King, Don King, Paul Chambless, Ralph Ward Jr., Derek Hawkins, and Monte Rouquette.

Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of the First Baptist Church.

Barney Ray Reed

Funeral services for Barney Ray Reed, 66, of Tulsa, OK were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Moore’s Eastlawn Chapel in Tulsa.

Burial followed at Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow, OK under the direction of Moore’s Eastlawn.

Mr. Reed was born May 30, 1935 in Avinger, Texas and died Saturday, May 4 at Tulsa Regional Medical Hospital.

He was retired from American Transfer Company after 30 plus years of service.

Mr. Reed was a member of Scottish Rite AKDAR Shrine and Delta Masonic Lodge #425.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Margie Reed; parents, Barney and Ethel Reed; sisters, Elizabeth Costlow and Faye Warrington.

Survivors include sons, Gary Reed of Tulsa, Terry Reed of Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Travis Ray (Buster) Reed, Jennifer and Josh; sisters, Pauline Dunklin, Joyce Davis and Vilois Dickerson.

James F. “Jim Sholes

James F. “Jim” Sholes, 65, of Frankston, died Tuesday, May 7, in a Tyler hospital.

Burial was under direction of Advantage Mortuary Services of Tyler.

Mr. Sholes was born Feb. 10, 1937, in Louisiana and lived in Frankston for three years.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Morris Sholes, Frankston; one son and one daughter.

Lowell Tarrant

Graveside services for Lowell Tarrant, 86, of Palestine were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at Roselawn Park with Rev. Gregory Megill officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mr. Tarrant died Monday morning, May 13, in a Palestine hospital.

He was born Sept. 7, 1915 in Bullard, to the late Richard Elem and Agnes Arilla Barwick Tarrant.

Mr. Tarrant was the manager for Tarrant Lumber Company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Ricky Tarrant; four brothers, Duel Tarrant, Alvis Tarrant, Thadus Tarrant and Melba Gene Tarrant.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth Tarrant of Palestine; a son, Mickey Tarrant of Fort Worth; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

W.C. ‘Bud’ Thomas

Services for W.C. ‘Bud’ Thomas, 91, Frankston were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 16 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Palestine with pastor David Bergman officiating.

Burial was in Roselawn Park under direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Mr. Thomas died Sunday, May 12 in Frankston. He was born March 31, 1911, in Chicago, Ill. to the late Charles H. and Mabel Valentine Thomas.

He moved to Palestine in 1951 where he retired from William George Produce Co. in 1973 and then moved to Lake Palestine in 1978. He was a member and an elder at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was a member of Holy City Riders motorcycle club in Palestine until the age of 79.

Brothers, Raymond and John P. Thomas preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Aleen Mixer Thomas, Frankston; daughter, Janie Kay Honeycutt, Grapevine; brother, Charles Thomas, Rogers, Ark.; two stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Martin Honeycutt, Christopher Honeycutt, Kennedy Hawkins and Allen McClurd.

Honorary pallbearers were Jim Fry and Homer Woody.

Lois Beall

Graveside services for Alma Lois Henson Spikes Beall, 71, of Whitehouse, formerly of Frankston, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Noonday Cemetery with Dr. Harold Brunson officiating. Services were under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home of Tyler.

Mrs. Beall died Monday, May 20, in a Tyler hospital.

She was born Dec. 14, 1930 in Dallas.

Mrs. Beall lived 18 years in Frankston and 18 months in Whitehouse. She was a member of Hillcreek Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress.

Survivors are sons, Glen Wilson Spikes and Johnny Lee Spikes, both of Emory; daughters, Martha Ann Neeley of Whitehouse, Vanessa Dale Shipley of Arp, Tammie Ann Cole of Balch Springs and Sabrina Kay Clark of Whitehouse; stepmother, Martha Beatrice Hanson of Lancaster; a sister, Juanita Pickett of Lancaster; six grandsons, two granddaughters, three great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

Pallbearers were Richard Dale Dickens, Hanes Trampas Dickens, Joshua Maynard Dickens, Jeremy James Cole, Johnny Wilson Spikes and Jeffery Lee Spikes.

Ima Grace Perry

Funeral services for Ima Grace Perry, 100, of Palestine were held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 27, at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home Chapel in Palestine, with the Revs. Tommy Caskey and Bell Perry officiating.

Burial was in Roselawn Park.

Mrs. Perry died Saturday, May 25, in a Palestine nursing home.

She was born Feb. 3, 1902, in Alto to the late Johnnie and Janie Beasley Foster.

Mrs. Perry was a homemaker and member of North Jackson Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elijah Earl Perry in 1964, and sons, Thomas Earl Perry and Fred Allen “Dick” Perry.

Survivors include daughters, Eloise Roberts of Poynor, Ann Perry and Dorothy Henderson, both of Palestine; sons, Troy Perry of Center, Charles Perry of Palestine, Blue Perry of Corsicana, J.L. Perry of Leona, James “Pop” Perry of Madisonville and Jimmy Perry of Ackerly; 37 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren and 51 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Wayne Perry, Tommy Perry, Jessie Foster, Johnnie Foster, Jim E. Perry, Ronnie Perry, Bill Roberts and David Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren.
