Norman Hodges

Funeral services for Norman Hodges, 71, of Frankston, formerly of Houston, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the HillTop Baptist Church in Berryville with the Revs. George Folmar and James Engle officiating.

Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery near Frankston under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Frankston.

Mr. Hodges died Thursday, Feb. 23, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born July 1, 1928 in Aspermont, Texas. Mr. Hodges was a laborer and farmer. He was a member of HillTop Baptist Church, Berryville.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Hodges; and his father, Truman Hodges.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Hodges of Frankston; daughters, Judy Tornatore of Frankston, Donna Hutchison of Houston, and Norma Nichols and her husband, Terry, of Kingwood; his mother, Eula Mae Hodges of Levelland; brother, John Hodges of Levelland; sisters, Helen Tinnen of Midland, Gloria Taylor of Fort Worth, Margaret Masten and Connie Calley, both of Lubbock, and Kaye Houston of Midland; five grandchildren, Ricky Williams, Larry Williams, Michael Tornatore, Kristopher Thomas and Justin Nichols; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Robert Fabian, Wilburn Smith, Troy Durrett, Richard Kennedy, Fred Tunstill and L.D. Burris.

Erma Hambrick

LARUE - Funeral services for Erma Hambrick, 73, of LaRue, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at Union Station AME Church, LaRue, with the Rev. Bobby R. Whitehead officiating.

Burial was in Bethel Cemetery under direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co., Tyler.

Mrs. Hambrick died Saturday, Feb. 26.

She was born Nov. 27, 1926 in LaRue and was a lifelong resident of Henderson County. She attended Moore Station schools, was a member of Union Station AME Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Champion Hambrick, LaRue; sons, Vertis Hambrick, Charles Hambrick, both of LaRue, and Lo Hambrick, Lindale; daughters, Barbara Davis, Athens, Daisy Warren, Chandler, Patricia Woods and Alfrieda Johnson, both of LaRue, and Christine McKenzie, Tyler; brother, Aaron Brown, Dallas; sister, Mary Shephard, Crockett; 31 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Robert Taylor, Linden Sowells, Phillip Crawford, Reggie Bush, Chester Logan, Reggie Bush, Chester Logan, Russell Hambrick and Harold Black.

Honorary pallbearers were grandsons.

Lori Jean Campbell

Funeral services for Lori Jean Campbell, 21, of Nacogdoches, formerly of Palestine, were held Thursday, March 2, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Nacogdoches with the Revs. Jim Carter and Tommy Caskey officiating.

Graveside services and burial were in Frankston City Cemetery under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Director, Nacogdoches.

Miss Campbell died Monday, Feb. 28, in a Nacogdoches hospital.

She was born August 27, 1978 in Tyler.

Miss Campbell graduated from Slocum High School as valedictorian of the Class of 1997. She was a junior at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches where she studied English and journalism, and was named to the Dean's List three out of her five semesters there.

She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Nacogdoches and was also a member of CHI Alpha Christian Fellowship.

A video of Miss Campbell, interspersing photos from each stage of her life, was shown when she addressed a national symposium of the American Speech/Hearing Association in San Antonio in 1998.

She was featured in a Discovery Health Channel Special on her very successful use of advanced communications technology.

Miss Campbell was preceded in death by her grandfather, Bobby L. Campbell Sr.; her great-grandmother, Jewel Deel; an uncle, James (Smitter) Smith.

She is survived by her mother, Pam Gouger Jones of Palestine, daughter of the late W.H. (Dub) Gouger; her father, Bobby L. Campbell and stepmother, Susan Campbell of Frankston; sister, Amy Jones of Palestine; brothers, Alan Jones of Palestine, and Bobby L. Campbell III, Eric Campbell, and Daniel Campbell, all of Frankston; grandparents, Billie Campbell of Frankston and the late Bobby L. Campbell Sr., and Myrtle Gouger of Austin; and special friend, Bill Johnson of Palestine.

Pallbearers were officers with the Stephen F. Austin State University Police Department.

Roy Herrington

PALESTINE - Graveside services for Roy Allen Herrington, 86, Palestine, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at Chapel of the Air, Land of Memory Cemetery, Palestine.

Arrangements were under direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home, Palestine.

Mr. Herrington died Sunday, March 12, in a Palestine hospital.

He was born Oct. 21, 1913, in Neches to the late Allen L. and Mattie Thornell Herrington.

Mr. Herrington was a lifelong resident of Palestine and member of First United Methodist Church.

He served as sheriff for Anderson County for more than 24 years, the longest tenure in history. He was elected to office in 1947 at the age of 33 years, becoming the youngest sheriff in the state of Texas. He worked for Texas Department of Corrections, was elected to the Palestine City Council and served as police commissioner.

Mr. Herrington was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Shriners of East Texas, Texas Sheriff's Assn., National Police Assn. and Palestine Lions Club for more than 25 years.

Survivors include wife, Doris Herrington, Palestine; sons, Roy A. Herrington Jr., Anahuac, and Rush L. Herrington, Palestine; daughters, Harriett Herrington, Palestine, and Gayle Morton, Houston; brother, A.L. Herrington Jr., San Angelo; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Masons served as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, Allen Herrington, Joel Herrington, Will Gilmartin and Cal Morton.

Memorials may be made to charity of choice.

Laura Pierson

Funeral services for Laura Jordan Pierson, 90, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Evans Spring Baptist Church in Neches with the Rev. Reginald Scott officiating.

Burial was in Dabbs Cemetery under the direction of Emanual Funeral Home in Palestine.

Mrs. Pierson died Friday, March 17, in a Tyler hospital.

She was born July 14, 1909, in Neches to Eli and Lucy Johnson McCray.

Mrs. Pierson received her education from Clemmons High School in Neches.

She was a member of Evans Spring Baptist Church.

She married Ellis Jordan and later married Ivory Joe Pierson.

Mrs. Pierson was preceded in death by a son, Jodie Turner; sisters, Lula Brown, Ardesea Green, Leola Whitaker and her twin, Elizabeth Demar; and twin brothers, George and Ike McCray.

Mrs. Pierson is survived by a daughter, Wuyles Thomas of Fort Worth; four grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

'Sib' Campbell

Funeral services for Sylvester "Sib" Campbell, 94, Frankston, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Church of the Living God, Athens, with the Rev. Julius Session officiating.

Burial was in Sand Flat Community Cemetery under direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co., Tyler.

Mr. Campbell died Friday, March 10, at his residence.

He was born June 17, 1905, in Athens and attended school in the Sand Flat community.

Mr. Campbell lived in Frankston for more than 20 years, was a retired farmer and member of Mount Moriah Church, Athens, where he served as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by a step-son and two great-nephews.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Campbell, Frankston; daughters, Elwanda Cornelius, Midlothian, Va., and Theresa Moore Norman, Tyler; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Elijah Stroughter, Michael Cornelius, Cedrick Brown, Fredrick Brown, Kevin Givens and Jimmy Miller.

Honorary pallbearers were Willie B. Thompson, Roger Gross, Henry Campbell and Earl Marshall Givens.

Myrtle Coleman

Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Coleman, 85, of Frankston were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Thompson Funeral Home chapel, Frankston, with Dr. O.D. Christian, past Grand Patron, Grand Chapter of Texas, Order of Eastern Star, officiating. He was assisted by Donna Douglas and Debra Seachrist, granddaughter.

Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery.

Mrs. Coleman died Sunday, March 26, at home.

She was born Nov. 18, 1914 in Olla, LA., and resided in Frankston since 1972.

Mrs. Coleman was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Frankston.

She was the Charter Worthy Matron of Frankston Chapter No. 1113, and served as Worthy Matron of Alvin Chapter No. 15, Order of the Eastern Star. She was also Mother Advisor of the Assembly of Rainbows for Girls, Alvin; member of the Board of Directors of Palestine Assembly of Rainbows; and past president of the Kickapoo Story League of Frankston.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Dishman.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Howard Coleman; daughter and son-in-law, Katheryn and C.T. Bell, of Palestine; a daughter, Glenda Frazier, Palestine; a son-in-law, Sonny Dishman; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were grandsons, great-grandson and nephews, including Kyle Frazier, Chuck Dishman, Rusty Bell, Monty Coleman Floyd, O.L. Jones, Vernon Jones and David Jones.

Honorary pallbearers were Masons of William Foster Lodge No. 312 of Frankston.

Pauline Floyd

LARUE - Graveside services for Pauline Floyd, 78, of LaRue were held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 27, at LaRue Cemetery with the Revs. Charlie Brown and Bill Bristow officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.

Mrs. Floyd died Saturday, March 25, in Athens.

She was born Oct. 30, 1921 in Anderson County to the late Will and Nan Manning Stephens.

Mrs. Floyd lived in LaRue for 35 years and worked for LaPoynor Independent School District for 13 years. She was a member of LaRue Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Kathy Miller of Liberty; daughters and sons-in-law, Dell and Joe Young of LaRue and Joyce and Harold Jones of New Iberia, LA.; companion, John Dyer; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.
