Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Harry Jackson, Jr.

Harry Campbell Jackson, Jr., 81, of Berryville, passed away Dec. 29, 2007 in Tyler, of complications following a series of strokes.

Harry was born Feb. 17, 1929 in Pittsburg, PA to Agnes Smith and Harry Campbell Jackson, Sr. At an early age, he moved to West Virginia and attended Linsley Military Institute and Triadelphia High School (Class of 1943).

Mr. Jackson graduated with a BSEE degree from West Virginia University (Class of 1949) and attended WVU Graduate School. He was past President of Alpha Rho Chapter, Kappa Alpha Order. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order Court Honor. He was a Navy veteran (1944 – 1946), serving in the Pacific Ocean on the USS Teton, AGC-14 and was a member of the AGC Flagship Alliance. At that time, he was the youngest Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Jackson was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of West Virginia and Texas. He held engineering, supervisory and management positions with three major steel companies. Mr. Jackson was a life member of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers. He retired from Jackson & Associates, Inc. in 1993, having founded the company with his sons in 1977. He also owned Diamond Machine & Mfg. Inc., a mining equipment manufacturing company in Dallas.

Mr. Jackson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Palestine, serving as Treasurer; Meadowbrook Country Club, serving on the Board of Directors; and the Palestine Rotary Club, serving as Treasurer. He was a member of Bates Lodge #33, A.F. & A.M.; Life Member of the Scotish Rites Bodies, Valley of Wheeling; formerly a member of Osiris Temple A.A.O.N.M.S.; Member of Sharon Temple A.A.O.N.M.S.; Royal Order of Jesters, Tyler Court #168. He had been a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court #13 for 32 years. He was a Life Member of the Kachina Klub. Member of the Krue of Revelry in Palestine where he and his wife had been King and Queen.

Mr. Jackson was the beloved husband of late wife, Alberta (Bertie) Jackson, and loving father to sons Ronald Cameron Jackson (wife Kelly and stepgrandsons Ashton and Tanner) of Berryville, and Richard Campbell Jackson (wife Shanan, granddaughter Eryn Lindsey Jackson and grandson Ian Campbell Jackson of Pittsburg, PA.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Roselawn Park, Palestine, followed by memorial services at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, at First Presbyterian Church, 410 Avenue A, Palestine. 75801. Memorials may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Honorary pallbearers will members of the Krue of Revelry and Palestine Rotary Club.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Doris Joan Kennedy

Services for Doris Joan Kennedy, 66, of Frankston were held Thursday, Dec. 27, at Beaty Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Zorich, Jr. officiating. Burial was to follow at Willard Cemetery in Wood County under the direction of Beaty Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kennedy died Friday, Dec. 21 at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital.

She was born Feb. 6, 1941 in Winnsboro to the late L.B. Powell and Lessie (Hood) Powell.

She worked as a homemaker, managed the Lake Palestine Motor Lodge and was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Scotty Kennedy.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Kennedy of Frankston; two daughters, Christina Hawthorne of Flint and Toni Baxter of Tyler; three brothers, Kenneth Powell and wife Debbie of Tyler, James Powell and wife Bobbie of Gilmer, David Powell of Humble; two sisters, Donna Powell of Winnsboro, Jolene Weems and husband David Earl of Winnsboro; five grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Wade Powell, Chris Powell, Jason Weems, Steve Weems, Mike Powell, Kerry Powell and Tony Watson.

Honorary pallbearers were Isaiah Baxter, Sean Hawthorne and in spirit, Scotty Kennedy.

Alice McMahon

Services for Alice McMahon, 98, of Frankston, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in the Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dan Manuel officiating. Burial will be in Judson Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mrs. McMahon died Wednesday at her home. She was born October 7, 1909 at Everett, Washington to Joseph Henry and Lillie Mae Young Loshbaugh.

Mrs. McMahon was a member of the Frankston Church of Christ. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John William McMahon who died in 2006, son David McMahon who died in 1999 and a brother Dallas Loshbaugh.

She is survived by three sons: Aithel McMahon and wife Carolyn of Ardmore, OK, Jerry McMahon and wife Sylvia and Joe McMahon of Tennessee Colony; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: John Douglas McMahon, John Gary McMahon, Bryan Key, Cary Greg McMahon, Steve Swinney, Butch Williams and Beau White.

Condolence calls will be received Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Gerald Hall

Services for Gerald M. Hall Sr., 66, of Palestine were scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 27, at Norwood Heights Baptist Church with the Revs. William Snydow, Kevin Wilmot, Gerald Hall Jr. and Todd White officiating.

Burial was to follow in Brushy Creek Cemetery under direction of Herrington/Land of Memory, Palestine.

Mr. Hall died Dec. 21, 2007 in a Tyler hospice.

He was born April. 23, 1941, in Anderson County to Roosevelt and Ruby Holland Hall, and was a lifelong resident.

He was a member at Norwood Heights Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon on Nov. 15, 1970.

He worked 22 years with Glass Containers Corp. and 17 years with BASA Resources, Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Hall of Palestine; sons, Gerald Hall Jr., of Palestine, and Andrew Hall of Tyler; daughter, Melissa McLane of Frankston; brother, George Hall of Troup; sisters, Pauline Sammons and Ethel White, both of Palestine, Lorine Smith Kerens, and Cretia Dungan of Leagueville and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Brad Weesner, Jimmy Watson, Josh Harris, Keith Dungan, Michael Hall and Tommy Gunnels.

Honorary pallbearers were Hack Lambright, W.H. Ward, Floyd Schmitz, Johnny Titlow, Charlie Slaughter, Vergil Harris and members of the Norwood Heights Men’s Sunday School Class 1.

LaVerne Lindsey

Funeral services for LaVerne Joyce Lindsey, 79, of Frankston were scheduled for Friday, Dec. 21, at Autry Funeral Chapel in Frankston with the Rev. J. A. Griffin and the Rev. James Farmer presiding. Burial was to follow at Frankston City Cemetery.

Mrs. Lindsey died Wednesday, December 19, 2007 in Jacksonville.

She was born June 28, 1928 in Frankston to the late Len and Ester Henderson.

She was a member of Frankston Assembly of God and was a caretaker.

Mrs. Lindsey was preceded in death by parents and sister, Amanda Adams.

She is survived by her sons, Curtis Grubbs of Coffee City and Edward Grubbs of Frankston; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and David Nolen and Debra and David Harrell all of Frankston; brother, Bobby Jack Henderson of Frankston; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Danny Shires, Justin Tippett, Trent Nolen, Ronny Nolen, David Harrell, and David Nolen.

Woody Arnold

A memorial service for Woody Arnold, 48, of Frankston will be held at Grace Fellowship Church in Flint on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m.

Mr. Arnold passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 2:30 p.m. at Frankston Health Care Center. His body was donated to science at Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Mr. Arnold was born on April 5, 1959 in Dallas.

He was married to Joye Arnold in 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Joye of Frankston; his mother, Anna Divine; a stepmother, Frances Ables; three stepsons, Craig, Steve, Carter and Jeff; four sisters, Kelly, Kim, Dollie and Mollie and one brother, Max.

A. J. Finch

Funeral services for A. J. Finch, 58, of Palestine formerly of Frankston, were scheduled for Monday, Jan. 7, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel, in Frankston with Elwin “Nat” Campbell and Jim Orr presiding. Burial will be in the Finch Family Cemetery.

Mr. Finch died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008 at his residence.

A.J. was born March 5, 1949 in Dallas, to James Aubrey Finch and Mina Leola Holliman. He was a Welder.

He was preceded in death by his father; James Aubrey Finch.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Finch of Palestine; son, Michael Rechner of Palestine; daughters, Laurie Coates of Elkhart and Kristen Tidwell of Itasca; mother, Mina Holliman Finch of Tyler; grandchildren, Haley Nicole Coates, Shawn Michael Coates, Trinity Tidwell, Brazos Tidwell and Nathan Tidwell; brother & sister-inlaw; Harley M. and Diane Finch and sisters & brotherin- law: Annettia M. Kennedy of Frankston and Von L. & Robert Tatum of Frankston also several nieces and nephews and greatnieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Michael Rechner, Arnold Coates, Ricky Lemmons, Rob Tatum, Todd Tatum and Kenneth Kennedy.

Honorary Pallbearers were John Finch and James Finch.

Viola Gurney

Viola Josephine Gurney, 91, of Bryan passed away Friday at her residence. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday at Brazos Valley Family Worship Center. Interment will follow in the Frankston City Cemetery.

She was born in Cleveland, Okla. and had been a resident since 2000. She was a member of Frankston United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Joel Withem of Bryan; grandchildren, Angela Withem Vasquez, Joel Edward Withem, Ellen Vlasta Withem- Lazervic, Roberta Gail Meduna, Stephanie Cook, Julie Smith and Vance (Gurney) Dallas; four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sarah Dabbs

Sarah Estelle Dabbs, 96, of Frankston passed from this life on Wednesday, Jan. 23 in Tyler. She spent her entire life in Frankston, no doubt having touched many lives.

She was born June 26, 1911 in Frankston. She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Mrs. Dabbs was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Dabbs; her parents, William “Arthur” and Dicie Holsomback; her sisters, Polly Hunt, Nita Huggins and Dell Walker; brothers, Jack Holsomback and W.A.Holsomback II.

Survivors include her brother, Ray Holsomback; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Holsomback-Dean and Mary Holsomback; brother-in-law Raymond Huggins and many nieces and nephews who knew her fondly as “Auntie”.

Services for Mrs. Dabbs were held Saturday, Jan. 26 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston. Burial followed at Liberty Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, Jan. 25th at Autry Funeral Home, Frankston.
