Virgil T. King

TENNESSEE COLONY — Funeral services for Virgil T. King, 71, of Tennessee Colony, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at Bailey & Foster Chapel in Palestine.

Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery near Frankston under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. King died Tuesday, Dec. 28, at his residence.

He was born July 8, 1933 in Waggner, Okla. to Virgil and Ollie Mae Fields King.

Mr. King was a self employed as a construction contractor in the Houston area for many years. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He also was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 213 and the Benchrest Shooters Assn. of Houston. Mr. King served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Mae Milum.

Mr. King is survived by his wife, Lois M. Clakley King of Tennessee Colony; daughters, Janice Broussard of Katy, Judy Harman of Houston and Jeanie White of Pearland; mother-in-law, Vaudine Dansby of Frankston; seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Lee Meritt

Graveside services for Lee Meritt, 77, of Palestine were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Reese Cemetery in the Reese Community near Jacksonville, with Johnny Anders, John Thompson and Dan Manuel officiating.

Services were under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mr. Meritt died Friday, Dec. 31, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born March 15, 1927 in Houston.

Mr. Meritt was owner of Meritt Muffler Shop. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Meritt Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Nell Meritt of Palestine; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee Thomas Jr. and Deborah Meritt, of Jacksonville; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marjorie Meritt of Jacksonville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles O. and Dianne Etheridge of Bullard; a sister-in-law, Blanch Meritt of California; a granddaughter, two step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Etheridge, Eddy Bearden, Tim Smith, Larry Smith, Roy Dee Meritt and L.H. Holcomb.

Sandra Montoya

Sandra P. Montoya, 52, of Frankston, died Saturday, Dec. 25, in a Tyler hospice.

She was born Nov. 27, 1952, in Dallas.

Mrs. Montoya worked for E-Systems in Arlington in electronics and wiring and for Air Rover. At the time of her death, she had been a waitress for Judy’s Kountry Kitchen in Poynor.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl A. “Dutch” McQuilliam.

Survivors include her son, Robert McKay of Arlington; a daughter, Kristina Smith of Arlington; her mother, Pauline Wood of Frankston; brothers, John McQuilliam of Harper, Alvin McQuilliam of Duncan, Okla, and Carl McQuilliam of Grand Prairie; sisters, Avis Whidden of Kingston, Okla., Linda Castleberry of Velma, Okla., and Teresa Thomas of Durant, Okla.; her grandfather, Elva Williams of Muse, Okla.; and five grandchildren.

Robert ‘Pup’ Parker

LARUE — Graveside services for Robert Lee “Pup” Parker, 52, of LaRue, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Frankston City Cemetery with Pastor Allen Shook, officiating, under direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.

Mr. Parker died Monday, Dec. 27, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 2, 1952, in Dallas to J.W. and Ellen R. Olive Parker.

Mr. Parker lived in LaRue for the last 30 years and worked for Athens Fire Department, Athens Sheriff’s Department and Athens Police Department.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.W. Parker in 1985.

Survivors include daughters, Andrea Elaine Sauls of Effingham, S.C., Robin Lynn Brown of Macon, Ga., and Rhonda Charise Hunt of Killeen; his mother, Ellen Parker of LaRue; a sister, Linda Ann Parker of LaRue; a special friend, Mary Glenda Burnett of LaRue; three grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.

Pallbearers were Craig Jay Barton, Ron Porter, Sean Harlan, Jered Harlan, Shannon Brown and Jim Hunt.

Almoth Petri

JACKSONVILLE — Graveside services for Almoth E. Petri, 85, of Jacksonville, formerly of the Pert community, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Neches City Cemetery with the Rev. Theo Johnson officiating.

Burial was in Neches City Cemetery under direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Mrs. Petri died Sunday, Dec. 26, in a Jacksonville hospital.

She was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Brownwood to the late Ike Jefferson and Rose Bethel Wright Ward. Mrs. Petri was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Neches.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frazier Fred Petri; and brothers Jim Ward and Virgil Ward.

Survivors include a son, Spencer Petri of Pert; a sister, Sue Carroll Green of Jacksonville.

Pat D. Thomas

Graveside services for Pat D. Thomas, 71, of Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Wofford Cemetery in Frankston with Rev. George Folmar officiating.

Services were under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Mrs. Thomas died Sunday, Dec. 26, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 12, 1933 in Frankston. Mrs. Thomas was a bookkeeper for area car dealers for 25 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster Thomas.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patti Ruth and Jack Jones of Frankston; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe Moss and Bertie Coleman of Bridge City; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Audrey Robison, James Daniels, Jim Wolf, Charles Adams and David Berry.

Wanda Roebuck Graham Bruno

Funeral services for Wanda Roebuck Graham Bruno, 64, of Frankston were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11 in the Thompson Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jerry Stanger officiating.

Burial was in the Reese Cemetery.

Mrs. Bruno died Saturday, Jan. 8 in Tyler.

She was born Feb. 4, 1940 in Dallas and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Garland and had been a P-TA president.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Roebuck.

Survivors include her husband, Bonard Bruno of Frankston; sons and daughter-in-law, Archie Graham Jr. and wife Janet of Reese, and Ernie Mark Graham of Fort Worth; a daughter, Julie Dawn Caspersen of North Richland Hills; daughters-in-law, Rhonda and Cheryl; brothers and sister-in-law, Rick Roebuck and wife Vicki of Sunnyvale, and Phillip Roebuck of Dallas; grandchildren, Kevin Ray Graham, Kyle Graham, Archie Lee Graham II, Coleman Graham, Lindsay Caspersen, Shae Graham and Ryan Graham.

Pallbearers were Rick Roebuck, Ernie Graham, Kevin Ray Graham, Archie Graham Jr., Zach Roebuck and Kyle Graham.

Annie Ruth Campbell

Funeral services for Annie Ruth Campbell, 77, of Coffee City near Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel in Waco with Rev. Lester Adams officiating.

Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Campbell died Wednesday, Jan. 12, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 1, 1928 to Melvin John and Carrie (Martin) Wade.

Mrs. Campbell was an assembler at Hallmark Generator and Starter for over 20 years until retiring in 1988. She was a member of HillTop Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include her sisters, Vivian Irene Nowlin of Waco and Lela Mae Tillson of Granbury; a brother, Arnold E. Wade of Frankston; several nieces and nephews.

Josephine Adelia Lake

BERRYVILLE — Funeral services for Josephine Adelia Lake, 86, former Berryville mayor and civic leader, were held Saturday, Jan. 15, at Autry Funeral Home chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. Benny Walker officiating.

Burial was in Tecula Cemetery.

Mrs. Lake died Wednesday, Jan. 12, in Jacksonville.

She was born March 29, 1918 in Tecula to the late Lawrence “Dock” and Cora Stockton Ross.

Mrs. Lake was owner/operator of Lake’s Grocery in Berryville from 1972 until retiring in the early 1980s. She was active in formation of City of Berryville and served on the City Council and was mayor, 1979-1982. Mrs. Lake was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Tyler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Lake; and son, Mackie Lake.

Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Sue Kindle of Troup; a brother, Larry Lee Ross of Longview; a sister, Valerie Ross; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers were David Lake, DeWald Lake, Joe Traylor, Kennith Ross, Darrel Moore and Frank Morton.

Billy Weldon Arey

Memorial services for Billy Weldon Arey, 71, of Frankston were to be held at 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 29 at Lakeside Community Baptist Church in Flint with Rev. George Folmar officiating.

Services were under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mr. Arey died Saturday, Jan. 22, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 27, 1933 in Farmersville. Mr. Arey was a sub contractor inspector for gas, oil and fiber optics. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Lakeside Community Baptist Church in Flint and was a life member of the VFW. Mr. Arey was honored as hometown hero in Farmersville.

He was preceded in death by a son, Billy W. Arey.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Arey of Frankston; a brother, John Arey and his wife Joan of Farmersville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mamie Elizabeth Farmer

CLEVELAND — Graveside services for Mamie Elizabeth Farmer, 90, of Cleveland were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Frankston City Cemetery with Rev. Chuck Evans officiating.

Services were under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Mrs. Farmer died Thursday, Jan. 20, in a Cleveland hospital.

She was born Dec. 29 in Trinity, La. and was a professional seamstress. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Farmer Jr.

Survivors include sisters, Velma McClure of Jonesville, La., Victory Greenwood of Conroe and Dorothy Keller and husband, Fletcher of Cleveland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
