Here are the obituaries posted for the current month from information provided courtesy of local and area funeral homes and published on their websites or those submitted by families. We will add pictures to archived obituaries from the print version of The Citizen newspaper prior to September 2019 when available. Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Clyde H. “Pete” Lambright

Clyde H. “Pete” Lambright left this earth for a better place on Feb. 4, 2022. He left in peace knowing he had Jesus’ promise.

“In the Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” John 14:2

Clyde was born March 2, 1932, near Winona to Luther and Lota Lambright. The family moved to the Jacksonville area when he was a young boy where he grew up as a farm boy. When he grew older, he went to work for International Furniture Co., a division of Schnadig Corp. After 30 years, he received a gold watch for his service.

He enjoyed outdoor activities — hunting, fishing, camping and his love of camping took us all over the United States in an ‘82 Chevy PU camper. He was most proud of our trip to Alaska in the old truck. He would tell anyone who would listen about his “trip to Alaska”.

He was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Lota Lambright and brothers Martin R. and James H. Lambright.

He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Edna Paslay Lambright, and children Wayne and wife Teresa of Yellville, AR, Larry of Mt. Selman, Becky Beard and husband Greg of Frankston, and Tony of Jacksonville; grandsons Dustin and Dillon Lambright, and Lucas Beard; great-grandchildren, Alec Beard and Sophie Williams.

Visitation with the family is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday Feb. 8, 2022 at Autry Funeral Home.

Graveside services at Jarratt Cemetery will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022 at 2 p.m. Robert Simpson, Pastor of Beall Chapel Baptist Church will officiate.

Donations can be made to Beall Chapel and to Heart to Heart Hospice.

Shelia Kay (Morrow) Drum

Funeral services for Shelia Drum, 63, of LaRue, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, at the LaRue Baptist Church with Bro. Olin Boles officiating. Interment will follow at New York Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Drum passed away on Feb. 4, 2022, in LaRue.

Shelia Kay (Morrow) Drum was born Dec. 17, 1958, in Mineral Wells, the daughter of Morris Erwin Morrow and Nelda Jean (Lane) Morrow-Winblood. She graduated from Richland Hills High School in 1977 and married Hyett Keane Drum on Aug. 17, 1978. Shelia was a homemaker and worked with System Painters out of New Ulm, Texas as an administrative assistant from 2003 to 2007. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, and shopping, especially for purses as she had an extensive collection. Shelia was a remarkable daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who will be remembered as outgoing, bold, honest, and loving.

She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, Tommy Winblood, and brother-in-law, Jeff Spence.

Survivors include her loving husband of 43 years, Hyett Drum of LaRue; mother, Nelda Morrow-Winblood of LaRue; daughter, Bridgett Walker of Tyler; sisters, Rhonda Maghan and husband Kent of LaRue, Tonya Riley and husband John of Kemp, Linda Spence of North Richland Hills; grandchildren, Tori Powdrill and husband Jordan, Otis “D.J.” Walker and wife Nicole, Kimberly Amber Walker; great-grandchildren, Christina Walker, Koda Clay, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the LaRue Baptist Church Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.

Robert Norman Pope

Robert Norman Pope was born May 26, 1943 and entered eternal life on Feb. 9, 2022 peacefully at his home in Mansfield surrounded by his loving family. Norman was 78 years old.

A celebration of life is scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022, at Herrington Land of Memory Funeral Home in Palestine. Rev. Al Keech of Westminster, Colorado will officiate. He will be laid to rest at Crawford Cemetery, Slocum. Services are under the direction of Herrington Land of Memory Funeral Home, Palestine.

Visitation will begin on Monday, Feb. 14, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Herrington Land of Memory Funeral Home, Palestine.

Norman was born May 26, 1943 to Norman Moody Pope and Meryle Lorraine Pope in Palestine.

Before answering the call to the ministry, Norman was a Deputy United States Marshall in the Northern District of Texas serving as personal security for Federal Judge Sarah T. Hughes, who swore in Lyndon B. Johnson as President of the United States. Norman was a Paul Harris Fellow for Rotary Club International and was an avid golfer and enjoyed organizing golf tournaments for the Rotary Club as well as the Ministeral Alliance of Pastors.

Norman began his pastoral ministry at Bluegrove Assembly of God Church in Lancaster and was founding pastor of Healing Waters Church in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. He retired from pastoral ministry after 14 years as Pastor of Frankston Evangelistic Church in Frankston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Moody and Meryle Pope; beloved brother, Roy David Pope; and nephew Chad David Pope; uncle and aunt, Elvin and Mable Pope; and aunt, Jeanette Pope Brigman.

Left to cherish Norman's memory are his wife of 56 years, Linda Pope of Mansfield; daughter, Erica Lin Leifer and husband David Leifer of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Andrea Lorraine Sandoval and husband Rene Sandoval of Kingsville; sister-in-law, Nancye Pope of Palestine; and niece, Lorye Pope of Keller. Lovingly known as Papa, he will be missed by his grandchildren, Giovanni Javier Sandoval, Diego Javier Sandoval, Jack David Leifer, Zechariah Javier Sandoval and Joy Juanita Sandoval.

Pallbearers will be: David Jon Leifer, Rene Javier Sandoval, Giovanni Javier Sandoval, Diego Javier Sandoval and Jack David Leifer.

Honorary pallbearers are Ed Davis, Buster Hicks and Larry Q. House.

Don Wheeler

Our community unfortunately lost Don Wheeler, “Don-Don,” at 48 years old and he will be greatly missed. Don was born Oct.  27, 1973.

Don was a character, a jokester, and loved his family and friends deeply. He was vital to our community for many years as a dispatcher for Morgan’s  Answering Service, was a member of the Frankston Volunteer Fire Department and worked as a beverage merchandiser at different companies for many years.

Don never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anybody, and anyone who would talk with him would probably be laughing. He had a crazy sense of humor.

He loved to be around family and friends, loved being on the lake, wide open on a jet ski. He liked racing and football and loved to eat good southern or Mexican food. As he would say, “ya gotta get the combo plate.” His nicknames he gave out to everyone and his silly smirk and contagious laugh will truly be missed.

Don is preceded in death by his parents Ilene and John Wheeler.

Survivors include his two sons, Carson and Bryce Wheeler; his sisters, Shirley Folbaum, Linda Rodgers and Jeannine Douglas; and his brother, Johnny Wheeler.

Services for Don will be held at the Assembly of God church in Frankston on Feb. 25, 2022 at 3 p.m.

Any flowers the community may want to send can be sent to Boren-Conner Funeral Home in Bullard.

A gathering for the family and friends of Don to follow the service will be held at Alicia and Steven Boggs’ home at 23280 Peninsula Point, Frankston.

John C. Newman

John C. Newman, 83, of Frankston passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, in Tyler.

He was born Feb. 18, 1939, to E.E. and Velna Wright Newman.

John graduated from Corsicana High School and attended Navarro Junior College. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Midway as an avionics technician.

After the Navy, John was employed by Delta airlines in Dallas. He went on to start several businesses in the Dallas area. He was a director of White Rock National Bank and a Life member of the East Dallas Chamber of Commerce.

After retiring to the family ranch, he ran a successful specialty crop business and was featured in GO TEXAN. He also raised cattle, waterfowl, and several species of exotic animals on the ranch. For several years, he had the largest private collection of Waterfowl in the United States and supplied birds to parks and zoos around the world. He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors, traveling the country hunting and fishing in his leisure time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two sons Corry Dale Newman and Cary Mark Newman.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Newman of Frankston; grandsons J.R. Newman and wife Megan of Frankston and Logan Newman of Mabank; great-grandsons Waylon and Morgan Newman, both of Frankston, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will have a private service.
