Colleen Harrison Herrington

Funeral services for Colleen Harrison Herrington, 94, of Frankston, were held Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at The United Methodist Church of Frankston with Pastor Michael Fraley officiating and Ann Maxwell playing music.

Pallbearers were Bobby, John, Lance, and Jim Walker, Christopher Mabe, Tom McClendon, and Bill and Bob Whitehurst.

She was laid to rest at Frankston City Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Colleen left this earth on Jan. 16, 2019, to be in heaven with her beloved husband, John William Herrington and join the Lord her Savior.

Colleen was born in Temple, Texas, on March 17, 1924, as the only child of L.B. and Thea Harrison. She grew up in Beaumont, where she played the violin in the school orchestra and graduated from Beaumont High School in 1942.

She attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in both chemistry and biology in 1946.

She joined the oil Industry as a chemist for Shell Oil Company in Odessa, where she met the love of her life, John William Herrington of Brushy Creek.

On Dec. 2, 1950, they married in Odessa and lived together for 66 years. They raised three daughters on their cattle ranch in Brushy Creek. Colleen was a longtime member of The United Methodist Church and for many years enjoyed quilting with the church ladies on the quilt auctioned annually at the Lord’s Acre.

She loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and cooking meals for her family. She took up oil painting when her daughters left for college. During her final years she crocheted scarves for her closest friends and family. She was an avid reader, sports fanatic, animal lover and did crossword puzzles every day. The family is blessed to be loved and cherished by such a strong woman who built a Christian home filled with love. She is now able to play 84 dominos with John and some of her closest friends in heaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents L. B. and Thea Harrison and husband John William Herrington.

She is survived by daughter and special caregiver Janice and husband Bobby Walker of Frankston, daughter Joan and husband Tom McClendon of Austin, daughter Kathleen Herrington Mabe of Bellaire, three grandsons, John and his wife Ashley Walker, Lance Walker, Christopher Mabe, and great granddaughter Zoey Walker.

Jeff Rickard, Jr.

Jeff Rickard, Jr., 70, of Poynor passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at Hospice HomePlace surrounded by family and friends.

He was born June 13, 1948, in Hulbert, Oklahoma, to Jeff  Rickard, Sr. and Joann Rickard.

He was a self-employed drywall finisher for 50 years working all over East Texas. He was a member of Country Chapel Church in LaRue and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and piddling in his barn.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty Rickard; daughter Tressa Woodson; son Rufus Rickard and wife Jessica; daughter Julie Mills; granddaughter Seciele Wisdom and husband Mike; granddaughters Emily Pryor, Macy Mills and Eryn Pryor; grandson Trenton Taylor; great grandchildren Mati, Kenzi, and Troice; sister Mary Riley; sister Cheryl Stiager; sister Cindy Milam and husband Larry; sister Jesse Janes; brother David Rickard and wife Colleen; brother Roy Don Rickard and wife Caren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday,  March 9, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Country Chapel Church in LaRue.

Earlene Rogers Bishop

Earlene Rogers Bishop passed away at 1:30 a.m. on February 9, 2019, at Legacy at Town Creek, Palestine, Texas, where she was admitted into hospice care on January 25, 2019, surrounded by family.

Earlene was born the daughter of Earl and Eva Rogers on September 22, 1926, in Palestine, Texas, where she was reared and educated. She was united in marriage to Donald Ray Bishop on September 23, 1953.

Don and Earlene moved to Brushy Creek during the early years of their marriage, and remained a part of that community throughout their lives.

A devoted wife, homemaker, and loving mother, Earlene was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, and is survived by one son, Jackie Earl Bishop; his partner Donna: grandsons Daniel and Kevin; a great-granddaughter, Lexi; and her faithful former daughter-in-law Jenolin Herrington, all of Brushy Creek; and by devoted sister-in-law, Joan and her husband Ben, of Houston, Texas. Earlene was cared for by her cousin Tim Todd and family in her beloved home.

A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, Earlene attended services at the historic Brushy Creek United Methodist Church, where she followed in the footsteps of her father serving in a number of volunteer capacities, from pianist for services to treasurer, and as a supporter until her condition prevented attendance.

Earlene loved music and she loved dancing with Don. She was also an excellent homemaker and cook who baked “from scratch.”

She enjoyed growing flowers and loved nature. Although she enjoyed traveling she was always delighted to return to her home in the country. Earlene will always be remembered for her welcoming manner and she was a true friend. Earlene will also be remembered for her sense of humor, her ready smile and infectious, easy laughter.

She survived several physical challenges with grace and humor. As a member of “the Greatest Generation,” Earlene possessed an open and generous spirit, and will be missed and remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Arrangements will be under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, including a visitation that was held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, February 12.

The service was officiated by Reverend Mike Fraley and Craig Harris on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in the sanctuary of Brushy Creek United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers accompanying her to Olive Branch Cemetery for interment (two miles east of Brushy Creek) were Dustin Stibbins, Bobby Stovall, Gary Holcomb, Billy Joe Edwards, Larry Selman, and L B Cheshier.

Prayers are appreciated. Memorial contributions to Brushy Creek United Methodist Church would be in keeping with Earlene’s devotion to its preservation.

Bobby Tarrant

Funeral services for Bobby Tarrant, 73, Weatherford, formerly of LaRue, were scheduled for 2 P.M. Tuesday Feb. 12, 2019 at the LaRue Baptist Church with Rev. Olin Boles officiating. Burial followed at LaRue Cemetery under the direction of Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.

Bobby passed away Thursday Feb. 7, 2019 at home in Weatherford.

He was born January 9, 1946 in LaRue to the late Jim Leland and Betty Jo Denny Tarrant. He was a lifelong member of the LaRue Baptist Church and a graduate of LaPoynor High School. Bobby spent many years farming and spent several years as a truck driver before he went to work for Henderson County Precinct 4 where he retired after 26 years of service. Bobby loved to hunt and fish and spend time outdoors. He was a passionate Dallas Cowboys fan and LaPoynor Flyers and Lady Flyers fan attending games often.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son; Chad Lane Tarrant and brother Jimmy Gene Tarrant.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years Sue Tarrant of Weatherford; daughter Shelina Hartness and husband Mark of Aledo; son Jeffrey Tarrant of Weatherford; grandson Ezra Hartness of Aledo; brother Joe Tarrant and wife Donna of Wills Point; nephews Joe Paul Tarrant and wife Kris of LaRue, Cary Tarrant and wife Mary of Forney and Don Tarrant and wife Amy of Martins Mill; niece Becky Tarrant, numerous great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Joe Paul Tarrant, Cary Tarrant, Don Tarrant, Troy Dan Smith, Austin Tarrant, Zachary Tarrant, Ryan Tarrant and Mark Hartness.

Visitation for family and friends was held at LaRue Baptist Church from 1 to 2 Tuesday prior to the service.

Edine Nesmith

A graveside service for Edine Nesmith, 93, of Frankston, is scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Olive Branch Cemetery in Brushy Creek.  The Rev. Doug Howell will officiate.  Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Frankston.  

Mrs. Nesmith passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019, in Frankston.

She was born March 31, 1925, in Winnfield, LA to H.K. and Ethel (McKaskle) Porter.

Edine was a former teacher with Frankston ISD.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Norvin Nesmith.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Robert Nesmith of Houston; and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Nesmith of Flint. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Heather Self and husband Brad, Derek Nesmith and wife Vanessa and Holly Nesmith and husband Dennis; and four great-grandchildren: Liam Self, Quinn Self, True Nesmith and Harper Wright.

Visitation will begin on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, and friends are cordially invited to visit with Edine’s family from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Gary Conrad Minter

Gary Conrad Minter, 76, passed away February 16, 2019, after a lengthy battle with respiratory and renal issues.  

He was born in Greenville, Texas, on September 11, 1942, to Freelan Dowe and Linnie Belle Minter. Gary grew up in Greenville, then worked in California, Florida, and the Dallas area before moving to Frankston in 1987.

Gary was a craftsman, enjoying woodworking when he was physically able to do so. He made decorative home accessories, selling them through Country Sampler magazine and always made something special to be auctioned at the Methodist’s Lord’s Acre fundraiser.

Gary was a collector, a lover of knives, baseball cards, trains, western memorabilia, old toys, and firetrucks. He enjoyed giving pocket and specialty knives to delivery and repairmen, doctors, nurses, ambulance attendants, relatives and friends.  

He was especially pleased to give knives to the volunteers of the Frankston Fire Department and to those men from the County Barn who often came to his rescue.  The knives were his way of saying thanks, but those people can never be thanked enough for all they did.

Although bedbound at home the last 10½ months, his life was made better because of the attentive treatment provided by staff of Hospice of East Texas. Their gentle care and support will not be forgotten.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Roy Mac Minter and Bruce Minter. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jennie Northcutt Minter, and children, Shelly Minter and partner, Joe Mayer, of Denton, Texas, John Minter and wife, Maegan, New Bern, North Carolina, Zac Minter and wife, Jalayne, Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Adrian Minter, Frankston. Gary is also survived by three grandchildren, Flyn, Hadley, and Hazel Minter, his sister, Chris DeChant, of Frankston, a number of nieces and nephews, and dearest friends, the Hector Hernandez family.

In celebration of his life, Gary’s family will have a private memorial observance. Naylan Lee Burke

Memorial services for Naylan Lee Burke, 84, will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at 1 p.m. at the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Pert, Texas with the Revs. Charles Bratz, Craig Harris and Charles Grasty officiating.

Mr. Burke was born August 1, 1934 in Dallas, Texas to the late Foy and Thelma (Cubley) Burke, and died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, under hospice care.

Mr. Burke graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas and worked in the press room of the Dallas Times Herald before and after serving two years in the United States Marine Corps, fourteen of those months in Korea.

He made a career with UPS, first as a package driver making local deliveries, then as a long haul driver where he was known by his CB "handle" Nite Owl, until his retirement in 2001.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Scott and Lisa Burke, grandchildren Shelly and husband Raymond Martin, Shaun and wife Victoria Haase, Shannon and husband Dale Labine, and Briana Burke, great-grandchildren Kyla, Colton and Ethan Martin, sister and brother-in-law Deann and Lonnie Smith, and sister-in-law Sandy Burke.

He is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren he loved as his own. He joyfully took all of his grandchildren shopping on his or her birthday.

He was preceded in death by siblings Cleone Sower, Kirk Burke, Michael Burke, wife Cookie Clowers Burke, and daughter Rhea Lee Haase.

Mr. Burke had a generous heart and was extremely charitable.

Terry Lee Hitt

Jesus welcomed His beloved servant, Terry Lee Hitt, into his arms of grace on Feb. 21, 2019.

Terry was born May 15, 1955, in Athens  to some very proud parents, E.A. and Billie Ann Hitt.

Raised in Poynor, Terry was the middle child, having an older brother Andy and a younger sister, Martha. His childhood was picture perfect growing up hunting and fishing, in the 1950’s and 60’s and he attended grades 1-12 at LaPoynor and afterwards TJC.

Terry began carpentry work at a young age working with his father and continued the trade throughout his life. A master craftsman in trim and construction, his legacy lives on in homes all over East Texas.

Terry gave his heart and life to Jesus on March 12, 1989. His testimony since that day in March, was always that Jesus became real to him and for all who knew Terry, knew that to be true... he was unashamed of the gospel and was an outspoken believer in Jesus Christ!

Terry was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church where he and his wife, Kim attended regularly. He was dearly loved by everyone, and always ready to give you a very big hug and talk about his Blessed Hope, Jesus!

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Enoch Andrew Hitt, Jr. and Billie Ann Kendrick Hitt.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Kimberly Zeiss Hitt, his siblings, Andrew Enoch Hitt and Martha Ann Hitt Mason, his children Taylor Ann Hitt Zebrosky and Tyne Melanne Hitt, step sons Taylor Barrett Knight and Tommy Parker Cuvelier, five grandchildren Roman, Claire, Kylie, Peyton and Hudson, and numerous other loved brothers and sisters in law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration service was held at Stewart Family Funeral on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019, with an informal visitation following.

The service was led by Raymond Woodward and a private graveside will be held at a family cemetery in Jasper, Texas.

Marshall McAdams

Marshall McAdams, 84, of Frankston, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, in Tyler.

He was born October 7, 1934, in Hillsboro, to Olin and Rosalie (Hickey) McAdams.

Marshall was a former deputy with Lubbock Sheriff ’s Department. He was also a florist and a pharmaceutical representative.

Marshall was an avid fisherman and loved going to bingo and casinos.

Marshall was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Anita Tidwell; and a grandson, Jeremy McAdams.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, David McAdams of Arlington, Brenda Gariepy and husband Ed of Big Spring, Joaney Patton and husband Bill of San Angelo, Machelle Strain and husband Jeremy of Colorado City, and Rebecca Gariepy and husband Richard of Lubbock. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Olita and Dan Emerine of Granbury; 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and one niece and two nephews.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Feb. 24, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston. Mr. McAdams will be laid to rest at Frankston City Cemetery.

Gary Donald House

Gary Donald House, a native of Frankston, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019 at the age of 76.

He was born in Frankston Aug. 26, 1942 to Lucy and Cecil House. Gary grew up in Frankston with his brother Roger and his sister Mary. He graduated from Tyler Junior Community College and became a successful oil field executive working in Louisiana and Texas.

He met his lovely wife Suzanne Dupont House in Thibodaux, La and together they raised their two sons Michael and Scott. Gary had cattle for many years, was an avid gardener and was very proud of his yard.

He was a member of The United Methodist Church of Frankston, and was a beloved member of the family of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Gary and Suzanne’s marriage was blessed in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church by Father Christopher Ruggles.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife Sue; his brother Roger (Ann) House;  his sons Michael House, Scott (Elizabeth) House; three grandchildren Ashley (Carson) Dipo, Sophia House, and Adam House; and a great grandson Sawyer Dipo.

In celebration of his life, a funeral service will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Hwy 155, Frankston on Saturday March 2 at 11 a.m., followed by a post service gathering for family and friends at St. Charles Borromeo Hall.
