Here are the obituaries posted for the current month from information provided courtesy of local and area funeral homes and published on their websites or those submitted by families. Through arrangements with funeral homes and/or the families, we will publish pictures with current obituaries. We will add pictures to archived obituaries from the print version of The Citizen newspaper prior to September 2019 when available. Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Ruby Nell Pagitt

Funeral services for Ruby Nell Pagitt, 96, of Frankston were held Saturday, December 2 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.A. Griffin and Rev. George Folmar officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston. Burial was in Poynor Cemetery.

Mrs. Pagitt passed away Thursday, November 30.

She was born March 26, 1910 in Henderson County. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Poynor.

Mrs. Pagitt was preceded in death by her husband Willie Thomas Pagitt, stillbirth baby in 1927, son James Robert Pagitt in 1973, daughters Lynn Kinser in 1993 and Maxine Clark in November, 2006.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Billy Joe and Mauriene Pagitt of Athens, and Thomas Ray and Carolyn Pagitt of Poynor; daughters and sons-in-law Martha Ann and Max Bishop, and Pat and Jim McCarty, all of Tyler; sisters Ola Shackelford of Frankston and Doris Lee of Tyler; son-in-law Carroll Kinser of Gilmer; daughter-in-law Elzada Pagitt of Athens; 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James Steven Pagitt, Jerry Don Pagitt, Billy Ray Pagitt, Keith Kinser, Mike Kinser, Danny Bishop, Michael Pagitt, Kevin Clark, Scott Clark, Mark McCarty, Brent McCarty and John Robert Pagitt.

Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Lewis Dickerson, Eugene Dickerson and Lois and Gunther Jensen.


Kathryn Pagitt LaBoid

Funeral services for Kathryn Pagitt LaBoid, 90, of Bryan were held Monday, December 11 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston. Burial was in Poynor Cemetery under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

Mrs. LaBoid passed away Friday, December 8.

She was born December 8, 1916 in Athens. She was a retired bookkeeper and a First Christian.

Mrs. LaBoid was preceded in death by her husband, a son, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include sisters and brother-in-law Doris and Charles Perry of Temple, and Betty Townley of LaFayette, Louisiana, and several nieces and nephews.


Adeline Emmert

Funeral services for Adeline Emmert, 68, of Ennis were held Saturday, December  9 in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Eddie Ricks officiating under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Ennis. Burial was in the Rice Cemetery.

Mrs. Emmert passed away Wednesday, December 6.

She was born February 17, 1938 in LaRue to Horace and Mable Holloway Henderson. She was reared in Frankston where she attended school. On July 3, 1959, she was married to Hugh Emmert, Sr. After their marriage, they lived in Ennis. She was employed as a baker with the Ennis ISD for eight years, as a greeter for Wal-Mart for 13 years and owned a daycare for several years. She was a member of the Anthony Drive Baptist Church.

Mrs. Emmert was preceded in death by her husband on June 29, 1991, and three brothers Homer, Terry Don and Jerry Lee.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Edwin and Donna Emmert of Ennis; daughters and sons-in-law Janice and Mike Dolezalik, and Peggy and Duane Dolezalik, all of Ennis; brother Robert J.W. Henderson of Frankston; sisters Abeline Johnson of Ennis, Annie Doris Reid of Frankston, Linda Kay Carlton of Tyler and Loraine Ivey of DeSoto; grandchildren Nick Dolezalik and his wife Jacklyn, Eric Dolezalik, Hugh Emmert III, Landon Emmert and Heath Emmert.

Pallbearers were Ernest Sikes, Don Flynt, Robbie Flynt, Robert Flynt, Michael Wayne Witherspoon, Kelly Graham and Jon Paul Flynt.

Honorary pallbearers were Steve Riggins and Wade Dillard.


Rosco Ruff

Funeral services for Rosco Ruff, 93, of Frankston were held Sunday, December 17 at Frankston Assembly of God with Rev. J.A. Griffin and Rev. Michael Griffin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston. Burial with military honors was at Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Ruff passed away Thursday, December 14.

He was born December 23, 1912 to the late Ervin and Claudie Ruff in Snowball, Arkansas. He worked for 15 years at Curtis Mathes in Athens. After retirement he was employed for 20 years for the Frankston ISD. He was a farmer and cattleman and lived most of his married life in Frankston. He was a member of Frankston Assembly of God.

Mr. Ruff served in the U.S. Army stationed in Italy during World War II. He was a charter member of VFW Post 5073 and a lifelong member of the DAV. He had a great love of horses and in his younger years he enjoyed riding them with his grandson Kevin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters and son-in-law Kenneth Shackelford.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years Bernice Ruff of Frankston; daughter Janice Shackelford of Frankston; special friend Don Paul Shepherd of Frankston; grandsons Kirk Shackelford and wife Vicki, and Kevin Shackelford and wife Rejane, all of Frankston, granddaughter Kristi Wagley and husband Mark of Frankston; six great-grandchildren Colten, Cooper, Colby and Maegan Shackelford, and Hannah and Grace Wagley; and sister Nila of Louisiana.

Pallbearers were Bill Henderson, Justin Holman, Jerry Beard, Don Paul Shepherd, Justin Barnes and Keith Campbell.
