Minnie Lou Scott

Funeral services for Minnie Lou Scott, age 101, of Frankston were held Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with the Rev. J. A. Griffin officiating.

Burial was to follow at Poynor Cemetery.

Mrs. Scott passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009 in Jacksonville.

She was born May 24, 1908 in Anderson County, and lived there all her life.

She was the last of the six children of David and Dora Evans.

She and her husband Melvin (Heavy) were married 81 years. She was primarily a housewife, but worked at various jobs.

She worked at the tomato shipping sheds, Tyler and Jacksonville, rose shipping companies, the Dairy Maid, helped operate a family owned “Scotty’s Malt Shop,” was a charter member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Frankston and attended Methodist church in Frankston.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin (Heavy) Scott of Frankston; son, James Scott; three grandchildren, Cindy Zalesky and husband Tom, Jim Scott and wife Georgi, Steve Scott and wife Zandra; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Steve Scott, Stephen Scott, Jr., Jason Zalesky, Dustin Zalesky, Chet Fischer and Scottie Rodgers.

Honorary pallbearer was David Evans.

Craig Roland Alsobrook

Craig Roland Alsobrook, 62, of Poynor, formerly of Austin, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Colfax United Methodist Church, Colfax Community near Canton with the Rev. Roland Alsobrook officiating.

He was born June 21, 1947 in Houston. He graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena.

He joined the U.S. Navy on Sept. 20, 1966, and served aboard the USS Lewis and Clark as a submariner Quartermaster and was a navigator. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 24, 1970.

He retired from the mapping division as a transportation planner at the Texas Department of Transportation in Austin.

He lived in the Austin area up until he relocated to Poynor in February of 2009, to be of help to his parents.

He loved to cook and enjoyed cooking for them as much as they enjoyed his cooking. He frequently shopped at Sav Mor Foods and Mack’s Produce both in Frankston and enjoyed the local small town flavor of visitation.

He recently joined the local VFW in Frankston and looked forward to making new friends there.

He loved outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, gardening and especially loved kayaking on river trips. He was planning on buying a kayak with his first Social Security check.

Craig loved animals and was very family oriented. He was always very friendly and had a heart as big as all outdoors. He was a longtime supporter of several charities.

He is survived by his son, Chris Alsobrook of Austin; his parents, Carl and Ellene Alsobrook of Poynor; his brother, Ray Alsobrook and his wife, Susanne, of Poynor; his brother, Clint Alsobrook and his wife, Danica, of Taylor; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of good friends. Those who knew and loved him will truly miss his warm smile, his infectious giggle and his loving spirit.

Wilma Louise Adkins

Funeral services for Wilma Louise Adkins, age 82, of Frankston, were held Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with the Rev. Ron Ivey officiating.

Burial followed at Garden Oaks Memorial Park in Berryville.

Mrs. Adkins passed away Friday, July 31, 2009, in Palestine.

She was born August 8, 1926, in Rockville, Indiana, to Orville McNeil and Mary Rebecca Barr McNeil.

Mrs. Adkins was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church, Berryville, and was a seamstress.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bud McNeil; and sons, David Adkins and Anthony Adkins.

Survivors include husband, Richard Wayne “Yankee” Adkins of Frankston; daughters, Pamela Hill of California, Becky Rindfleisch and husband Werner of Dallas and Penny Joplin and husband DeWayne of Palestine; son, Michael Adkins and wife Rita of Bullard; sister, Patty Crouse and husband, Albert, of Holidays, Fla.; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Scott Hamilton, Aaron Adkins, Cory Crisp, Anthony Joplin, Al Crouse and Keith Jones.

Ruby Lee Sides

Graveside services for Ruby Lee Sides, 91, of Frankston, were scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Salem Cemetery in Rusk with the Rev. Jim Boyte officiating.

Services were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mrs. Sides passed away Monday, August 10, 2009 in Frankston.

She was born June 21, 1918 in Rusk, to Oscar Smith and Mary Elizabeth Brown Smith.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Frankston and was formerly a nurse’s aide at Nan Travis Hospital in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Sides is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Sides; daughter, Ruby Louise Sides; father, Oscar Smith; mother, Mary E. Smith; three grandsons and one great-grandson.

Survivors include daughter, Mary Ella Harris and husband James of Jacksonville; sons, James H. “Buzz” Sides and wife Kathie of Poynor and David Sides of Jacksonville; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Peggy Kelley Mason

Peggy Kelley Mason was born July 8, 1937 to George and Lena Kelley in Junction City, La. Her childhood years were spent there where she and her sister made great memories. She attended Junction City High School graduating in 1955. She began what she considered her greatest accomplishment when she started her family, her daughter Kelly and her son Greg. She made sure her Christian home was filled with love, discipline, and morals but mostly love.

In 1972, she moved to Frankston where she planted her roots and considered it home. As her family grew she selflessly shared her life with her seven grandchildren who called her Granny. Some of her dearest friends were made while working at Cox Communication/Sudden Link in Jacksonville where she retired after 20 years.

Many happy hours were spent gardening, cooking, and painting. Her love for life was seen in her many talents. Peggy was best known for her kind and gentle nature and loving spirit. She accepted Christ as her savior when she was nine years old.

Faithfully, she held her membership at First Baptist Church in Frankston for 37 years. She went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 6, 2009 in Tyler.

Though she will be missed, her family celebrated her homecoming with visitation on August 7th at Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 8th at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Frankston with the Rev. Darin Wood and the Rev. Terry Skinner officiating.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Lena Kelley.

Peggy is survived by daughter, Kelly Black and husband Bud of Fairfield; son, Greg Mason and wife Melissa Cooper Mason of Peachtree, Ga.; grandchildren, Bret Walker and wife Jenn of Houston; Julie Crocker and husband Casey of Amory, Ms; Lauren Black of Fairfield; Katy Boykin of Fairfield; Addison, Carter, and Cooper Grace Mason of Peachtree City, Ga.; sister, Dorothy Colvin and husband Wayne of Shreveport, La.; nephews, David Culpepper of New Orleans; and Steve Culpepper of Connecticut.

Pallbearers were Robert Tidmore, Eugene Ethridge, Vic Wimpee, James Owens, Mark Chalk and Jack Douglas.

Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons.

Nellie Ray Martin

Funeral services Nellie Ray Martin, 95, of Frankston, were held Saturday, August 15, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with the Rev. J. A. Griffin and the Rev. George Folmar officiating.

Burial followed at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Frankston.

Mrs. Martin passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in Tyler.

She was born December 13, 1913 in Frankston to Arthur Frank Bussey and Zettie Overton Bussey.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Frankston, Frankston Flower Club and was formerly a waitress and cook.

Mrs. Martin is preceded in death by her first husband, Carl House; second husband, Jimmy Martin; and daughter and son-in-law, Golda and Joe Mack Dickerson.

Survivors include sons, James House and wife Imogene of Garland, George House and wife Mildred of Garland, and Larry House and wife Ann of Frankston; daughter, Nelda Folmar and husband James of Mesquite; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were her great-grandsons.

Mikki Kay Baxter

Mikki Kay Baxter, 35, of Tyler passed away on Aug. 15, 2009, in Tyler.

She was born Oct. 11, 1973, in Dallas.

She was a cafeteria manager in the Whitehouse Independent School District.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, Aug. 20, at First Baptist Church of Gresham with the Rev. Roy Thoene officiating.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Baxter of Tyler; three daughters, Emily Nicole Blevins, Samantha Dawn Blevins and Adrianna Marie Baxter, all of Tyler; one sister, Cheryl Haile of Florida; and one brother, Rick Moore of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Linda and Gerald Williams of Murchison.

The family asks that, for those desiring to do so, memorials may be made to the Mikki Baxter Tragedy Fund at Southside Bank.

Arrangements were under direction of Covenant Cremation Center of Tyler.
