Pictures with archived obituaries posted after that will be added in cooperation with funeral homes or on requests from families.  As was the tradition of the Citizen newspaper, obituaries are published at no charge.

Rachel Parrott

Graveside services for Rachel Mae Parrott, 81, of Athens were held Monday, July 31 at the Rounsavall Cemetery in Athens under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Parrott passed away Friday, July 28.

She was born May 9, 1925 in Lamesa.

Sylvia ‘MeMe’ Dickerson

Funeral services for Sylvia Jane “MeMe” Dickerson, 65, of Athens were held Wednesday, August 9 at the Living for the Brand Cowboy Church in Athens with Perry Eaton, Perry Smith and Donald Thomas officiating under direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Athens. Burial was in Poynor Cemetery.

She passed away Saturday, August 5.

Mrs. Dickerson was born August 29, 1940 in Chandler to Leonard and Evilee Kidd Morman. She moved with her family to Athens at an early age and graduated from Athens High School in 1958. She married M.J. Dickerson Jr. on June 12, 1959 and resided in several locations as her husband worked in pipeline construction. She was a homemaker and was considered a mother to more than her own. Mrs. Dickerson was a leader in the Pioneer 4H Club and was a strong supporter of sporting and community activities of her family. She was a member of the Living for the Brand Cowboy Church and a former member of Dogwood Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers W.C. Morman and Baby Lawton, and a sister Hazel Adair.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years M.J. Dickerson Jr. of Athens; son and daughter-in-law Tommy L. and Charlotte Dickerson of Athens; daughters and sons-in-law Shelley and Robert Jannasch of Lewisville, and Amanda “Mandy” and Scott Brumfield of Murchison; sister June Weibel of Elk Grove, California; brothers and sisters-in-law Charles and Virginia Morman of Malakoff, Arlan and Kathie Morman of Athens, Walter and Polly Morman of Tyler; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Pat House of Frankston, Billie and Bob Henderson of Plant City, Florida, Barbara and Lloyd Hanks of Poynor, Darlyne and Dave Barnett of Murchison; grandchildren Trent Dickerson, Tye Anne Dickerson, Blaine Brumfield, Layne Brumfield, Amber and Jimmy Don Brooks; great granddaughter Courtny Brooks; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Larry Busch, Wayne Pickle, Blaine Brumfield, James Green, Jody Lemons, Bill Wells, Vance Anderson, Jason Fitzgerald and Kevin Fitzgerald.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Steve Walling, Dr. Nolan Geddie Jr., Dustin Adams, Preston Eaton, Richard Jenkins, Cody Clark, Chantz Mann, Gary Fitzgerald and Kyle Bundy.

Lockie Henderson Harrison

Graveside services for Lockie Mae Henderson Harrison, 91, of Leggett, were held Saturday, August 12 at Liberty Hill Cemetery with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating under direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

She passed away on Tuesday, August 8.

Mrs. Harrison was born on April 23, 1915, in Frankston to George Lafe and Leora Henderson. She received her education in the Frankston School District with two brothers and ten sisters. She married Mitchell Gilder Harrison on July 1, 1933 in Frankston. They had two daughters. When she was nineteen years of age, her mother died leaving younger sisters without a mother. According to her family, she became their substitute mother. She made a difference in the lives of the girls in guiding them to become the ladies that they became. Her devotion and guidance also touched the third and fourth generation of the Henderson family. She was always ready and willing to accept the role of mother, grandmother, and great grandmother making a difference in their lives also.

The Harrison family moved to Leggett, TX., in 1945. Lockie became an intricate part of the Leggett Baptist Church, as she “put feet to her intentions” ministering to the community. She made a difference in the lives of people in Leggett for 61 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Leora Henderson; husband, Mitchell Harrison; daughter, Katherine Harrison; two brothers, Cone and Harvey Henderson; six sisters, Dallas Walters, Opal Maxwell, Margaret Felder, Jeanette Landrum, Jo Kocian and Ruth Smith.

She is survived by daughter Janie Rivers Pollock of Houston; grandchildren Thomas Rivers and Michelle Rivers, both of Houston; four sisters: Maybell Adams of Chandler, Mary McNeil of Frankston and Evelyn Mayo and Myrtle George of Jacksonville; one special niece, Lucille Avery of Angel Fire, NM.; brother-inlaw Everett Smith of Jacksonville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

Roy Pugh

Funeral services for Roy Pugh, 83, of Jacksonville were held Sunday, August 6 with Rev. Buddy Johnson and Rev. Phillip Warren officiating under direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial was in Corine Cemetery.

Mr. Pugh passed away Thursday, August 3.

He was born October 16, 1922 in Jacksonville to Arthur and Rosa Lee Pugh. He received his master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and his bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University. He was a teacher and coach 28 years in New Summerfield, Athens, Frankston, Bullard and Maydelle.

He played basketball for Fredericks Academy Air Force Falcons, Philadelphia Warriors and Fort Wayne Pistons. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was recipient of Zone 1 Conservation Farmer Award in 1968. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Pat Pugh.

Survivors include sons Cole Pugh of Fort Worth, Rex Pugh of Lufkin and Tracy Pugh of Jacksonville; daughter Linda Bowdon of Dallas, and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Travis Brown, David Coker, Joe Ellis, Gerald Gray, Burt Rollins, Ronny Lee, Jimmy Moore and Joe Hicks.

Honorary pallbearers were Bob Prewitt, Noel Stanley, Vernon Harton, J.C. Jonas, Bo Ousley and Gene Pike.

Homer Henderson

Funeral services for Homer Jay Henderson, 73, of Frankston were held Monday, August 21 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, Frankston with Bro. J.A. Griffin and Bro. James Farmer officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston. Burial was in Wofford Cemetery.

Mr. Henderson passed away Friday, August 18.

He was born April 13, 1933 in Frankston. He was a delivery truck driver with the Frankston Farm and Ranch for 18 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Horace and Mable Henderson, brothers Terry Don Henderson and Jerry Lee Henderson, and sister Bertie Lee Henderson.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Wanda Beth Henderson of Frankston; son Homer George Henderson of Frankston; daughters and son-in-law Betty Sue Henderson of LaRue, and Mary Beth and Jimmy Hebert of Basile, Louisiana; brother Robert Henderson of Frankston; sisters Doris Reid of Frankston, Lorene Ivey of Edgewood, Linda Carlton of Montalba, Abilene Johnson and Adeline Emert, both of Ennis; grandchildren Frances Abendroth of LaRue, Bryan Abendroth of Leagueville, Paul Abendroth of Brownsboro, Jim Hebert and Nikki Hebert, both of Basile, LA; and great-grandchildren Brittany Oldham of Palestine, Cameron Hebert of Basile, LA, and Dawson Abendroth of Leagueville.

Pallbearers were Jacob Lee, Paul Abendroth, Chance Miller, Frances Abendroth, Bryan Abendroth and Robert Walker.

Irene Halbert Tatum

Funeral services for Susan Irene Halbert Tatum, 96, were held Monday, August 7 at First United Methodist Church in Mansfield, Louisiana under direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Mansfield, LA. Burial was at Resthaven Memorial Park in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Tatum was born in Sabine County on December 4, 1909 to Horace B. Halbert and Ada Lee McCall. Her family moved to Frankston from San Augustine before 1926. She graduated from Women’s University (College of Industrial Arts) with a degree in Health and Physical Education in 1930. In 1953, she received her Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State College. An avid tennis player and swimmer, she coached students for over five decades in Frankston, Thomasville, AL, Longstreet, LA and Mansfield, LA. As a descendant of the prominent Halbert family, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the First Families in Texas. She was a member of the Farmer Bible class, United Methodist Women, Mansfield Garden Club and duplicate bridge club. She was a gardener, genealogist and faithful member of the church.

Mrs. Tatum was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Eddie Halbert and Gaylon Halbert, and sisters Virginia Saunders and Jean Baron.

Survivors include daughter Ann Jowell Woods; sister Lynn Orr; brother H.B. Halbert, Jr., M.D.; grandchildren Susan Woods, Lauri Langan and her husband Ted Langan, and Lee Woods;great grandchildren Stephanie DeRoche and husband Jeremy DeRoche, Megan Juckett, and Daniel Langan; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Maurice “Buster” Jennings

Funeral services for Maurice W.T. “Buster” Jennings, 84, of Frankston were held Thursday, August 24 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Frankston, with Rev. Curtis Crofton and Rev. Donnie Barron officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston. Burial will be at Wofford Cemetery.

Mr. Jennings passed away Tuesday, August 22.

He was born April 3, 1922 in Knox City, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He had been employed by TxDOT and retired from the State Highway Dept. in 1982. Mr. Jennings was a member of First Baptist Church, Frankston, where he served as a Deacon. He was a past Master of Wm. Foster Lodge No. 312 and held a life membership in Scottish Rite.

Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years Janie Jennings of Frankston; son and daughter-in-law Maurice W.T. and Theresa Jennings of Bullard; sister Marjorie Kunkel of Kerrville; brother Vaughnly R. Easter of Pineville, Louisiana; grandchildren Brian and Darla Jennings of Bullard, and five nephews.

Pallbearers were Almond Clark, Luther Ray Doughty, John Berry, Thomas Kunkel, James Lade and Mark Lookabaugh.

Amanda Adams

Graveside services for Amanda Adams, 63, of Frankston were held Friday, August 25 at Frankston City Cemetery with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating under direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston.

She passed away Wednesday, August 23.

Mrs. Adams was born February 23, 1943 in Frankston. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Jack Adams in 2005 and a son Billy Dan Adams in 1993.

Survivors include daughters Suzanne Miller of Berryville, and Lisa Ann Tippett of Frankston; sister Leverne Lindsey of Frankston; brother Bobby Jack Henderson of Frankston; grandchildren Marcus, Justin and Melissa Tippett of Frankston, and Krissey and Jake Miller of Berryville; great granddaughter Madyson Tippett of Frankston; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Marcus Tippett, Justin Tippett, Cody Tippett, Chad Tippett, Josh Cousin, Clint Wofford and Robert Homan.
