Boyd Adams

Funeral services for Boyd Adams, 78, of Murchison were held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 2, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Bro. Tom Bragdon and Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating.

Burial was at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Athens under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mr. Adams died Monday, March 29, at his residence.

He was born June 20, 1925 in Frankston.

Mr. Adams was a self employed painting contractor and owned Adams Peach Orchard for 14 years. He was a member of Leagueville Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Estelle Henderson.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Adams of Murchison; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Boyd and Cathy Adams of Crandall; daughters, Sherry Denise Jeffers of Spring, and Sandra Faye Hester of Maukport, Ind; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Jack and Manda Adams, and Charles Ronald and Elaine Adams, all of Frankston; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Gladys Boles

Funeral services for Gladys Hinson Boles, 91, of Frankston were held at 2 p.m Friday, March 26, at First Baptist Church of Frankston with the Rev. Grover Talbert and Bros. Donny Barron and Eddie Hilburn officiating.

Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery under direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mrs. Boles died Tuesday, March 23, at a Tyler hospice.

She was born April 23, 1912 in Leggett. She was a lifelong resident of Frankston, graduated from Frankston High School and Stephen F. Austin State College, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Frankston. She retired in 1977 as a third grade teacher from Frankston Independent School District and continued to work as a substitute for several years.

Mrs. Boles was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. “Jack” Boles; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Hinson; and a brother, Billy Jack Hinson.

Survivors include sons, Jerry Boles and his wife, Susan of Frankston and Jim Boles and his wife, Monti of Round Rock; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one nephew; and a sister-in-law, Lou Mel Harvey of Frankston.

Pallbearers included grandsons, Jody Boles, Jay Boles, Rusty Boles, Denny Boles, and great grandsons, Vance Dallas, Nick Boles and Ryan Boles, and a grandson-in-law, Chuck Dallas.

Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Smith Jr., Hobb Atwood, Bill Harden, Bill Hyde, J.C. Hicks, Jerry Gideon and Mike Marshall.

Opal Roper Martin

Funeral services for Opal Roper Martin, 88, of Frankston were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Frankston with the Rev. George Folmar officiating.

Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martin, died Monday, March 29.

She was born July 12, 1915 in Tuskahoma, Okla., daughter of Ollie Chandler and C.M. Payne Sr. Mrs. Martin made her home in East Texas in 1961 when she went into the restaurant business in Frankston. She owned and operated her family restaurant, Roper’s Diner, later known as Lake Trail Restaurant, for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Howard; a son, Charles Allen Howard; two grandsons, Sam Howard Gaddis and James Edwin Griffin Mays; two sisters, Euphie Payne Cates and Ruth Payne Lynch; four brothers, C.M. Payne Jr., Arnis Wade Payne, Eugene Floyd Payne, O.D Thomas Payne; her parents; and husbands, Noble Howard and J.B. Roper.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Martin; her children, Bob and Patsy Howard Argo of Roanoke, Bob and Judith Howard Bell of Plano, Don (Adam) and Deb Howard of Palestine, and Albert and Charolett Howard Gaddis of Frankston; two brothers, Richard Payne of Kemp and Archie Payne of Wills Point; 18 grandchildren, including Hollie Lynn Gaddis of Frankston; 41 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends, customers and employees.

Jimmy Walker

Funeral services for Jimmy Walker, 39, formerly of El Paso, were held Saturday, March 27, at 4 p.m. in the Word Outreach Fellowship Church in Dallas, with Rev. Phillip Harris, pastor, and Rev. Zebedee Preston, eulogist, officiating.

Services were under the direction Owen & Brumley Funeral Home of Fort Worth.

Mr. Walker died Thursday, March 25, in McKinney, after a lengthy illness.

He was reared and attended school in Pampa, and later moved to Shamrock, Waco and El Paso. He was a member of Progressive Baptist Church of Pampa.

He was preceded in death by his father Virgil Coleman Jr. in 1980; two sisters, Evelyn Walker in 1975 and Josephine Clerkley in 1960.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Christine Williams of Frankston; a daughter, A’Maya Polk of Shamrock; five sisters, Mrs. Gerard (Deborah ) Redrick of Mesquite, Mrs. Tim (Carol Jean) Walker of Leavenworth, Kan., Mrs. Jesse (Brenda) Long of Hewitt, Glenda Clerkley of Fairfield, Calif. and Mrs. Jason (Barbara) Towery of Arlington; five nieces, three nephews, three aunts, six uncles and many great nieces and great nephews.

Betty Jean Costlow

Funeral services for Betty Jean Costlow, 73, of Chandler were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 4, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Dr. Mike Deaton and Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating.

Burial was in the Frankston City Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Costlow died Friday, April 2, in Tyler.

She was born Dec. 11, 1930 in Frankston and was a 1948 graduate of Frankston High School. A registered nurse, she graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Mrs. Costlow was supervisor of nurses at Hotel Deiu Hospital for 17 years and retired from Medical Center Hospital in Tyler. She was a member of Lake Palestine United Methodist Church and Sunrise Shores Ladies Club.

Survivors include her husband, Sterling Costlow of Chandler; brothers, Billy Dean Jones of Frankston and Robert B. Jones of San Antonio; a sister, Suzie Owens of Chandler, Lake Palestine.

Pallbearers were Tim Costlow, Kevin Costlow, Michael Costlow, Huey Wilbanks, Jimmy Dan Dunklin and Johnny Burks.

Howard M. Folmar

JACKSONVILLE —Funeral services for Howard M. Folmar, 86, of Jacksonville, formerly of Frankston were held Thursday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at New Life Pentecostal Church in Jacksonville with Rev. Arnold B. Keating, Rev. Benny Grissom and Rev. Johnny Grissom officiating.

Burial was in Frankston City Cemetery under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mr. Folmar died Tuesday, April 6, in Jacksonville.

He was born Dec. 16, 1917 in Frankston and was a member of New Life United Pentecostal Church. Mr. Folmar was a board member for the New Life United Pentecostal Church and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, European Theatre. He was retired from Texas Department of Transportation, Smith County.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and brothers, Gilbert, Jack and Nolan Folmar.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Folmar of Jacksonville; a one-half brother, Guy T. Brown of Emerald Bay; and a one-half sister, Ruby Hagerston of Bakersfield, Calif; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Troy McDonald, Billy Henderson, Pete Young, Darrin Rooks, Benny Heisler and James Leavins Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were men of New Life United Pentecostal Church in Jacksonville.

J.C. Martin

Funeral services for J.C. Martin, 89, of Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, in the Thompson Funeral Home chapel in Frankston with Rev. Mart Edwards and Rev. Elgin Blevins officiating.

Burial was at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6.

Mr. Martin died on April 4 in Tyler.

He was born Sept. 27, 1914 in Mabank. Mr. Martin was a retired over-the-road truck driver for Texas Kenworth with 42 years service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sunnyvale.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Opal Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Martin of Frankston; daughters and sons-in-law, Clarice and Mac Warren of Simms, and Barbara and Billy Fred James of Mesquite; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Amelia Lee Zizzi

Funeral services for Amelia Lee Zizzi, 78, of Frankston were held Monday, April 5, at 10 a.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel.

Burial was in Houston National Cemetery at 1 p.m. with Cashner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Zizzi was born in Nacogdoches on Nov. 16, 1925 and died March 10 in Conroe.

During World War II she was a “Rosie the Riveter” while working at Convair and Lockheed. Mrs. Zizzi was a well known custom tailor for the California Peace Officers.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Paula Zizzi of Crestline, Calif, and Joe and Trish Zizzi of Montgomery; a sister, Barbara Paris of Huntsville; a brother and sister-in-law, Elvis and Nela Warren of Elkhart; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Don Bishop

Funeral services for Don Bishop, 72, of Brushy Creek were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 12, in Bailey & Foster Chapel in Palestine with Rev. Larry Krohn officiating.

Burial was in Olive Branch Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Bishop died Saturday, April 10, in Tyler.

He was born Oct. 2, 1931 in Palestine to Jack Bishop and Erma Lou Elliott Bishop. Mr. Bishop was a member of the Brushy Creek United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a rancher.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Earlene Rogers Bishop of Brushy Creek; a son, Jackie Earl Bishop of Brushy Creek; a sister Joan Bishop of Houston; two grandchildren, Daniel Bishop and Kevin Bishop, both of Brushy Creek; and a great-grandchild, Lexi Bishop.

Pallbearers were James Raiborn, Frank Vasquez, Hassell Lambright, Larry Selman, Larry Weber and L.B. Cheshier.

Honorary pallbearers were Jim Outlaw, Brent Perry, Billy Joe Edwards and J.R Harris.

Mrs. Elvie Ewell

Funeral services for Mrs. Elvie Ewell, 100, of Frankston were held Saturday, April 10, at 11 a.m. at Mount Olive Sandflat Baptist Church in Frankston with Rev. T.L. Walker, pastor; Rev. Lonnie Ross, eulogist; Rev. W.D. Brown and Rev. Julia Session officiating.

Burial was in Mount Olive Sandflat Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home of Jacksonville.

She died Sunday, April 4, in Frankston.

Mrs. Ewell was born to the union of the late Preston Pierson and Annie Foots Pierson on Dec. 24, 1903. She was reared in Anderson County where she attended public school and later Mary Allen College in Crockett. Mrs. Ewell was a member of Mount Olive Sandflat Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elijah Ewell.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, R.E. and Willie Mae Pierson of Frankston; special nieces, Lanaar Crear, Geraldine Pierce, Dianne Vernon and Margie Nell McCowan, all of Dallas, Bettye Davis of Frankston, Maxine Rogers, Baton Rouge, La., Francine Williams of Cuney, Jackey Barnes of El Paso, Lanette Ewell of Tyler and Demonica Pierson of Houston; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were nephews: Gregory Thomas, James McCowan, Gordon Rogers, J.L. Crear, Gerald Rogers, Cedric Pierson and Derrick Vernon.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Mount Olive Sandflat Baptist Church, Herbert Riley, Joe L. Burks and Larry McCowan.

Marvin Pratt Lowrance

A graveside service for Marvin Pratt Lowrance, 77, of Brushy Creek was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Rosewood Cemetery, Rosewood, Texas in Upshur County, under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.

Steve Handley, minister of the LaPoynor Church of Christ, officiated for the service. Grandsons, Benjamin and Jonathan Garrett and Orion Lowrance, all read scripture.

Mr. Lowrance was born Aug. 4, 1926 in Dallas, son of Marvin Newton Lowrance and Minnie Velma Pratt Lowrance.

He died Sunday, April 4 at his residence in Brushy Creek.

Before moving to Brushy Creek, Mr. Lowrance was a 40-year resident of Duncanville. He was a member of the LaPoynor Church of Christ.

Mr. Lowrance was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Edwin Lowrance.

Survivors include his wife of 54 1/2 years, Charlene Brown Lowrance of Brushy Creek; a daughter, Rebecca Garrett of Garland; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul Edwin and Debbie Lowrance of Midlothian; three grandsons and one granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; a sister and brother-in-law, Reta and Bill Leach of Coupland; and two nieces.

Kris Muzzy

Funeral services for Lois Christine (Kris) Muzzy, 58, of Waco were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Disney and Rev. Lester Adams officiating.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Frankston under the direction of Wilkinson-Hatch-Bailey of Waco.

Mrs. Muzzy died Saturday, April 10, at a Temple hospital.

She was born to Ed and Ada Belle Howell on June 25, 1945 in Terry County. Most of her childhood was spent in Morton. She was a longtime resident of Oklahoma City where she raised her children.

Mrs. Muzzy was a beautician and earned the degree of Master Instructor of Cosmetology. She retired and moved to the Waco area to be near family in recent years. She was a member of Ladies VFW Auxiliary #440 and assisted with Meals on Wheels at the Bellmead Civic Center. Mrs Muzzy was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Galilean Sunday School Class.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Renee Sowder-Miller and husband Brent of Andrews; a son, Bob Sowder and wife Sue of Waco; step-children, Lynna Muzzy and Jerry Muzzy, both of Yukon, Okla.; six grandchildren; a sister, Maurica Giles and husband Johnny of Murchison; brothers, Calvin Howell and wife Julie of Albuquerque, N.M., Jimmy Howell and wife Martha of Jacksonville, Byron Howell and wife Jacque of Tyler; her stepfather, Ed Roy Garret of Bellmead; and numerous nieces and nephews

Corry Dale Newman

Memorial services for Corry Dale Newman, 40, were held Thursday, April 8, at 10 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with Rev. Eddie Hilburn officiating.

Music was by Billie Bacon and Ann Maxwell.

Mr. Newman died Tuesday, April 6.

He was born Dec. 11, 1963, son of John and Dorothy Newman.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Cary Mark Newman; his grandparents, Elmer Newman, Gus and Virginia Lash.

Survivors include his parents, John and Dorothy Newman of Frankston; two sons, John Robert “J.R.” Newman and Logan Dale Newman, both of Frankston; a grandmother, Velma Newman of Corsicana; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mildred Irene Grissom

Funeral services for Mildred Irene “Mammie” Grissom, 86, of Frankston were held at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 20, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen with Rev. Eddie Hilburn officiating.

Burial was in Pecan Grove Cemetery at McKinney.

Mrs. Grissom died Friday, April 16, in Henderson County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Grissom; a son, Glen Grissom; mother, Julia Watson; sister, Edna Enos; brother, James Holiman; and grandson, Gary Grissom.

She is survived by a son, Larry Grissom, and wife, Nancy of Greenville; daughters, Eddie Lilly and husband, Joe of Frankston and Georgiann Grissom of Duncanville; sisters, Gladys Reynolds, Frances Welch, and husband, Jack, and Freddie Miles and Dorothy Robinson; brother, Claude Watson and wife, Shelia; 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were David Grissom, Pat Grissom, Joe Lilly, Paul Lilly, Darrell Williams, Richard Branch and Nathan Kemp.

Honorary pallbearer named was her deceased grandson, Gary Grissom.

Robert W. Morgan Jr.

Memorial services for Robert Wesley Morgan Jr., 55, of Berryville were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, at Lloyd James Funeral Home Chapel in Tyler, with David Henderson Matney officiating.

Mr. Morgan died April 15 in Tyler.

He was born July 12, 1948 in Mankato, Minn. Mr. Morgan grew up in North Mankato, Minn. and graduated from Mankato High School. He obtained a bachelor of science degree at Peru State University in Nebraska. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a senior master sergeant after 20 years of service. He retired from Verizon as senior program manager. He had lived in Mankoto, Minn., Colorado Springs, Colo., Redland, Keller and Berryville. He was a Vietnam veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. Morgan and Martha Margaret Morgan; and a son, Robert W. Morgan III.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Lee Morgan of Berryville; daughters Misty McNanera and Wyndi Morgan; three sisters, LaVonne Baker, Cindy Wrightson and Cheryl Thomas; a brother, Wayne S. Morgan; and four grandchildren.

Claude W. Sharp

Graveside services for Claude W. “Pappy” Sharp, 90, of Poynor were held at 3 p.m Tuesday, April 20, at Robinson Cemetery in Robinson with Rev. Paul Dickerson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Frankston.

Mr. Sharp died Sunday, April 18, at a Frankston nursing home.

He was born Sept. 12, 1913 in Robinson. Mr. Sharp was an auto body repairman.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Clara Mae Sharp.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, James and Betty Sharp of Lake Whitney, and Tommy Sr. and Jackie Sharp of Poynor; four grandchildren, including Tommy Sharp Jr. of Poynor and Jill Dellinger of Frankston; five great-grandchildren, including Brittany Sharp of Poynor, Aubrey Dellinger and Samuel Dellinger, both of Frankston.

Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons.

Cora Elizabeth White Emmins

Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Elizabeth ‘Liz’ (White) Emmins of Garrison, formerly of Frankston, were held Saturday, April 24, at 9 a.m. at Garrison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rex Humphreys officiating.

Graveside services were at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro with Rev. Jack Smith, retired Disciple minister of Hillsboro, officiating.

Funeral services were under the direction of Garrison Funeral Home in Garrison.

She died Wednesday, April 21 in a Garrison nursing home.

Mrs. Emmins was born March 6, 1918 in Missouri, daughter of Elias B. White and Loam Myers White. She attended schools in Missouri. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Emmins was a Baptist but had been attending the First Christian Church in Timpson.

Mrs. Emmins was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Oscar T. White in 1986, and Herbert Hiram Emmis in 1993; and infant daughter, Shirley; two brothers, Bill White and James White.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Jody White of Fort Worth; a brother, Talmond White of Garrison and Bob White of Timpson.

James Herrin Sr.

LARUE — Funeral services for James Benny Herrin Sr., 61, of LaRue were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home, Chandler, with Brother Frank Lane officiating.

Burial was in Chandler Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Herrin died Wednesday, April 21, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born Sept. 19, 1942, in Athens to the late William Decatur and Lou Herrin, and was a lifelong resident of Henderson County. Mr. Herrin was a painter.

Survivors include a son, James Benny Herrin Jr. of Brownsboro; daughters, Lisa Loy of Tyler, Sherrie Tennison of Henderson and Kay Shelton of Chandler; sisters, Martha Hardwick of Brownsboro and Judy Herrin of LaRue; and six grandsons.

Pallbearers were Bryan Harris, Aaron Wilson, Lynn Stewart, Edward Massenberg, Brad Wyatt, Matt Smith, Ken Iveason and Charles Couey.
